Hey kids,

You know the schpeil...more gong show than poetry slam, but the host digs poetry, so poets are very welcome. We've evolved quite a bit for what we are--6th show and we have microphones and an amplifier--and even a few musicians that will help back your words if you treat 'em right. And now, a cash prize for the best(?) act. 10 minutes to strut your stuff, 3 judges picked from the audience, two rounds and the winner takes home 15 euros, or 2 lottery tickets, your choice. And--here's our new flyer...should give you some sense as to what we're about. Even if you don't want to play, come out and judge.

November 20, Vollmond, which is at Schleissheimerstrasse 82...just north and west of the Theresienstrasse U-Bahn stop (or North of Stiglmeier)

Intimate night, but good night, last go...and the pub very happy to have us, and have invited us in for another go 4th Thursday of March...that's the 25th. We're already deep in planning for the event, and would be most honored should you come and attend. Support a local Irish Pub and the artistic endeavors of the English speaking ex-pat crowd at the same time--and if you've a talent you'd like to share, we'd be thrilled to welcome you to the stage.

As for the rest, well, I think the new flyer says it all.

Here 'tis. Come out and strut your stuff, people.

Thanks, TT, for getting on here and answering jml's query--jml...it is open to all, but there's a core of folks who come out pretty regularly and they're mostly English speaking ex-pats. So, yeah, if you're looking for a little English speaking entertainment, our venue's friendly to that...though we don't exclude. In fact, last show was notable for our fielding the affections of a heckler named Bienna (I don't know that I've got that name right, but it's close...), and we ended the show by trotting him up on stage and letting the judges score his performance. Usually a fun, fun night...we're a loose bunch of folks who're finding the venue, providing the format, and encouraging everyone to get involved and strut their stuff for us...whether as performers, judges, or a rowdy audience for us to bounce ideas off of. The acts range from the truly bizarre to the working-hard-on-sublime. Course, the best way to find out about it is to come out and find out for yourself.

Still over 120 hours left to get an act together, as well. There are nights when that much preparation could well win you the grand prize: a CHANCE at 250,000 Euros. If you're really good, we might even give you TWO chances at the big prize. And if you blow us away, we might even pop for a beer.

ellewood...would be fantastic to meet you in person, so with all hopes that you do come (damn, that means I'm going to have to put something GOOD together, instead of playing the fool in order to make the other acts look good...hmm...)

Anyway, here's a flyer, as always, printable and suitable for framing (preferrably in one of those kiddie frames...you know the ones with the painted pasta shells glued on for decoration. Hope to see a whole bunch of you out there!

Sommerpause? Was is das?

It's official--

Due to multiple conflicts re: time by many of the players, we've decided to move the slam to the --last--Thursday instead of the fourth. As this one is an early fourth, it feels the same anyway. Besides, it's our first go at the Bondi (who'da thunk, that first show, when the players were all people who worked in the same building, and our stage a pool table with two pieces of plywood on top, and my 6 year old daughter got things rolling by standing up and unfurling her latest drawing, that we'd have managed to get our stuff together well enough to merit a spot half a block from the Stachus U-bahn? I'm happy, believe me.) and we might as well make a fresh start of it by breaking some old patterns. So, details, to mark in your calendars, and a flyer for adding to your collection will be coming later. The July show is

on
29 July, 2004

at
Bondi Cafe Bar
Sonnenstrasse 8

beginning
20:00 Uhr, seating and sign up, solicitation of judges (no...not that kind of solicitation...)
21:00 Uhr, or when people have settled down--showtime.

Many of the usual suspects expected to be there...and if you participate in Shark Bach, there'll be something to sweeten the deal. For anyone who doesn't know what this is about--it's an amateur night, in which all acts are invited to come up to the stage and be humil...I mean, applauded. Questions? Post 'em here, or feel free to contact me, and I'll get answers to you. Just don't pull none of that weird metyfasical stuff on me, kay?

More soon...p_g

New2--

dunno...I'm still trying to come up with something to actually DO onstage--though last time it was a 4 day flurry to put me act together, and it came out all right...

Donne and bubblewrap...haven't heard a word...as for dessert...last time to see Shark Bach in Munich--this enormously, and deservedly beloved act has played to packed houses on two previous occasions, always to the extreme pleasure (read: gastronomic equivalent to orgasm) of the onlookers. This time, I understand those willing to take the challenge will be rewarded, in an immediately tactile manner.

Okay, I'm gonna put my Latin dictionary away now, and present you with a--flyer! Bavaria meets Woodstock, I think. Questions? Put 'em on the thread, and I'll get to them as they arise.

p.s--leave your inhibitions at the door.

Okay,

Here is the deal:

I just checked the weather, says that tomorrow is to be partly cloudy, Sunday PM showers. This is perhaps not the best news we've recieved, because we're going with a Sunday gathering--I'll be out at, I believe it's called the 'Steinbank'--this is a small semi-circular arena situated on a little half-island by the river behind the Monopteros--basically, if you head for the Monopteros, go to the path behind it, and turn toward the Chinese Turm, the Steinbank is then to your right, closer to the Monopteros than to the C.T. I'll probably be there starting around 4 pm, with my bald head and a cap that the man at my local laundromat says makes me look a little like Lenin. Later, Dagmar, of the English Comedy Club, will be coming out with a large orange umbrella to mark the spot. If there is a show, it will probably not start until around 6:30-7, but not much later, because there's poets involved, and they may need some daylight to play with. Depending on turnout, it may just be a gathering of a few people who have always been contributing to the show, or we may actually run with the show proper--I'll bring the gong and the lottery tickets just in case. Strictly BYOmaterials, bring picnic supplies and your choice of poison, and if nothing else, we'll have a relaxed get-together where we can share what we've been doing over the past month.

If the weather sucks, we may scoot to a covered location.

The turnout is actually looking to be fairly good, from what I've been hearing. Not only a number of the regulars, but Gudrun, of the Songwriter's night at the pub formerly known as Leon's has been in touch, and is also spreading the word, so we may have a few crooners show up to add to the mix. And a couple of new poets, from what I'm hearing, are also wanting to bounce some material off a live audience.

Any questions, post them here, or e-mail me at papa_geno @ yahoo.com.

See you there!

Weather's looking good for tomorrow--

I'll be there around 4 or 5 pm, show'll start approximately 6:30 or 7. Come on out.

Quiet night...well, sort of. Special thanks to Gudrun of the Songwriter's Night for spreading the word and coming out with the rest of the folks to turn what otherwise would have been a planning event into a night of fine, fun music and silly mock olympics. We're still looking for a venue, and I do have hopes that these two groups of artists can work together more closely in the future.

Thanks also to all who came out to listen.
