Hi everyone,
We are moving to Hamburg (very excited) in January and our son is now attending a Nursery School 3 times a week in NYC. Anyone know any schools or anything that's like an "American Nursery School" that would accept a 2 year old? Or like a Swedish "Dagis"? (Understood that they don't start until they are 3 in Hamburg?)
I would love for him to have the opportunity to get out of the house and play with other kids his age about 3 times a week (we have a newborn as well and the older one doesn't get the stimulation/attention he needs when I have to keep an eye on 2 kids at the same time).
Prefer Nursery school/Dagis since (at his current one) they are 3 kids/teacher and never more than 12 kids in a group, in an environment with 150 other kids. I have seen so many bad nannies, that I prefer to have him in an environment with lots of kids, teachers, parents and "grand parents" so there is always more than 1 grown up/kid...
Our main problem is that none of us speak German yet, and until we do that, I would prefer for our son to attend something with English speaking teachers/care takers -so we can understand each other!
Anyone got any ideas?
(We are planning on moving to the area Ottensen/Eimsbuttel if that is of any help)

Hi,
Playdays is a new english speaking playgroup, starting in January in Hamburg.
If you'd like more information, send me your email address and i'll forward the
details to you.
We offer two sessions per week, Friday mornings and one afternoon. It's all fun
orientated, music, dance, drama, storytime, arts and crafts.
Places are limited, I only have a couple of slots free on Fridays so i'll need to hear
from you shortly if you'd like a place.
Best wishes with your move to Hamburg,
Laura

Hi Jag,
We are in Ottensen and our son (nearly 3) goes to a Tagesmutter (day mother) 3 times a week. This is great as it gives me time to do groceries etc and he gets to play with other kids. The Tagesmutter that my son goes to is English and she works in tandem with a German Tagesmutter. They are great and I would highly recommend them. I found them at the office for Tagesmutters at the Town Hall. The people there looked for tagesmutters who spoke English for me. It is, however a little difficult to get places is you area a stay at home mum.

Thanks Purple-Hoggy and Laura!
A tagesmutter and some playdates it is. Guess I have to be in town before I apply for a tagesmutter... Does that work with only English, or do I need to bring someone (!) who speaks German? Guess I'm better safe than sorry... Will ask someone from my husbands office to tag along.
Thanks again!
