Life in the town of Wismar

Various info and advice on settling in

Hello
Living here for a year now, and I'ts not so bad, a bit quiet!
Anyway does anybody know where I can learn German around here? I had a job for a while but it was miles away and bored the pants of me and I didn't learn much german as everybody was too busy working to be talking.
Now I need a new job but I need to learn german first I think, so I can distract people, any Ideas?
I would also like to get out there and get involved in the comunity as I don't know anybody except for my girlfriend and her family but I keep coming up against dead ends
I need an excuse to talk to people as people just give me odd looks when I talk to them for no reason.

Also does anybody know where I can watch the New Zeeland Ireland rugby match next weekend?
(have I posted this in the right Place)

Anyone coming to Germany and wanting language training should always look for their local Volkshochschule, like the VHS Wismar course schedule. They often provide courses but it isn't guaranteed. Depends on how many foreigners are registered in their area. Charges seem a bit steep (> €1000) for people paying for themselves. Maybe you could swing it to get the courses paid by the government. Because you are an EU citizen your chances are pretty slim but I think it's still worth a try.

Hi, Thanks, I tried there all ready, I can learn English there! amongst other things.
I visited the place, there was nobody and no notice board, bit strange, I robbed a brochure all the same
Today I went to the DAA in schwerin they do integration and german courses, do you know anything about them?

You might have better luck in Rostock as it is bigger than Schwerin. THough I have not taken the classes myself I have known a few people that have...of course the general consensus is that you don't learn anything from those classes.

According to their PDF in the link I gave, they also do German as a 2nd language.

I went back to the school today just to double check and this time I found a person, by god! and she brought me to the office hidden away upstairs and yes they do English courses for over a €1000
I was in the arbeits amt earlier and told that they wouldn't pay for the DAA course as I'm not a migrant, I came here by choice. The Volk school woman told me to go to the arbeits amt again saying something about migrant and getting money but I saw no point. Do these people not talk to each other, I had asked in the arbeits amt about english courses before and they had no idea, it's all a bit frustrating, my lack of german doesn't help and now I hear these courses my be of dubious quality.
on the bright side I managed, after going from the tourist office to the town hall then back to the tourist office then to some other office on the out skirts of town, to find a nice man involved in the christmas market and I may be able to sell sweet chestnuts at the christmas market and so learn german that way. My girlfriend's Dad has 3 sweet chestnut trees
