Hi, I just got to munich a few weeks ago, and as of yet don't know too many people who wanna go out clubbing. I was hoping that I could find some people here.

I'm 22 and a student, but don't hold it against me! I really miss going out clubbing and am looking for as many people to go with as possible really. Most kinds of music are good with me, just please no more cheesy 70/80/90s crap pop. There is way too much of it here.

If all else fails, and you don't wanna go clubbing - fancy a drink next weekend?

Cedric (from Brighton, living in Garching b. München)
Jimbo
I'm quite possibly up for some clubbing (really want to try Pacha), but my weekends are busy as hell for damn near all of November...possibly out for a few cheeky beers on Friday though...
Big C
sounds cool. not so sure about pacha, haven't heard great things about it. (overpriced and only men in suits)
Pacha in england maybe cost a lot, but at least they always have someone famous playing and it's pretty lush inside.

beer on friday sounds good. clubbing anytime is also good.
Foxy
Hey Cedric, welcome to Munich!!!

I love clubbing and have been to a few good nights since I moved over here a couple of months ago. This weekend I went to The Palais which is near Hauptbanhof, the djs played a mixture of progressive and hard house. It was a cool wee venue, with a great atmosphere and when I left at 10.00 in the morning, it was still in full swing.

If you like your techno then you will be disappointed to know that you missed the legendary Carl Cox a few weeks ago. He played at Badeanstalt, which is a really cool venue in Schwabing. It used to be a swimming pool!!! Goldie played there on Friday actually but unfortunately I missed it.

If you are looking for a clubbing night out, then I think there may be a couple of TT ers interested so let me know and perhaps we can look to see who is on and get a posse together.

Why dont you come along to the Murphy's Irish bar on Tuesday for a few beers. It will give you the opportunity to meet some people. I have hardly met any myself yet so dont worry about being new. If you are up for it, and if your student grant will allow it (sorry couldnt resist tongue.gif ), let me know.
Big C
hi foxy. i was just writing a message in your section.
but i'll write it here.

I have been here for about a month and been out quite a bit, but most of my friends are students and so into going to cheesy music nights. which are fun, but only the first coupla times. i want some real music.

i was annoyed i missed carl cox, only noticed afterwards. but then i did go to Badeanstalt for the "International DeeJay Giglos" night there.

Missed Goldie due to being elsewhere, again annoyed, maybe i'll make the next night!

The Palais sounds good, if you fancy going some time with some TTers, friends etc. then just post.

As for tues at Murphys - sounds great. See you there to discuss clubbing further.

Oh being a student I have no money, but I do have music taste, unlike most students!
Jimbo
Hadn't heard that about Pacha, but since during the week I'm a bloke in a suit, I guess it doesn't matter to me quite so much...

Must confess I'm more of a bar person these days (must be my age I guess), but I'll definitely be up for the odd night out and about in Munich's clubs...

See you Tuesday - i'll be the guy in a suit!
Big C
i have nothing against people in suits. i've been one myself. but i prefer a more relaxed attitude in clubs.

anyways see you on tues. (i'll be the scruffy looking student smile.gif )
Foxy
Jimbo, too old?
Jimbo
I feel too bloody old today. I always feel like that after a bit of a session though...
losthoney
Hi Cedric !
Hey, I ´m a student, too, and also like clubbing. I´m sure we can manage going out even though. What are ye studying ?
Big C
cool.
keep writing people who wanna come clubbing. i'll try to arrange something with people who come on tues to Murphys and post the plans here!
Big C
well on tues me and jimbo have arranged to go out clubbing on friday. dunno where yet. any suggestions welcome, and the more the merrier, so please tag along.

Oh and I'm definately going to see DJ Tiesto at Badeanstalt on Sat. Nov. 15th.
for more details check out: http://www.badeanstalt.net/
Again the more the merrier.
Big C
Ok well after our unsuccessful friday night clubbing, when I say the more the merrier I think that means, only if there are some girls. We don't want 6 guys again and then not to get in!
So if you're a gal then please come along, and if you're a guy, then please come along, but only if you bring a gal!
Does that sound fair?

God knows, see you on Sat. at Badeanstalt.
laramegan
i just got back from studying in munich, and i can tell you some awesome places to go if you like clubbing. wish i was still there, i'd meet up with you! Palais is always a good choice. Other good ones: P1, Milchbar was my favorite, the latest electronic music venue is The Garden which you should definitely check out. Bar X can be cool if you just want to chill out. Afterhours at Nachtwerk klub can be crazy, starts at 6 and goes to 12 in the afternoon. I have lots more suggestions, let me know if you're interested!
laramegan
forgot to mention that the best website is www.nachtagenten.de!! it's great. and you have to promise me you'll go check out Karl "Tuff Enuff" Brown on thursday. he's this badass uk garage dj, i actually saw him when i was there as well. it's at milch und bar in the Kultfabrik area. You should know where that is, if not, just go Ostbahnhof and follow the crowd! have fun!
Big C
thanks for the help there. have been to a few of the clubs you mention. milchbar is normally just all the other clubs unless there is a good dj on.
Karl "Tuff Enuff" Brown, uk garage - i think not some how. well at least it's not my cup of tea.
Adam Freeland last thurs would have been good though.
eric
P1!!!??? OH MAN!! SINCE U MENTIONED THAT CLUB laramegan I DON'T BELIEVE A WORD U SAY! GIVE ME A BREAK! P1? Most clubs suck here in munich. i lived in london for awhile and got spoiled. there are some organized venues like www.rillenfieber-corp.de. send them a mail so you're on their mailing list. another one is http://www.isarstrandbar.de. "favorite bar" is a place to warm up and funky kitchen is somewhere to move your feet. there's a new club that opened up next to the FK but i forgot the name. but let me warn you, P1 SUCKS.
Big C
i haven't been in, but i have heard that P1 sucks big time.
judging by the rolls royce and then bentley's that pulled up the only time i was outside, i guess i don't have the budget for it anyway!
davek
I agree with Eric, clubs in german are naff. yeah you may be able to go to them as you are and no dress code, unlke the uk, but there is a dress code here in germany/munich, but they never tell you that untill you are at the door. and as soon as you open your mouth, even if you speak fluent german, they get that you are not german and you have no chance of getting in. as for P1, i've never got in (being a guy) but have heard also that it is a crock of shite! Milchbar, dress in black and you may have a chance. I stopped going clubbing because it is crap and i can't be arsed to spend my cash on arseholes who have no brain and choose somebody at the back of the queue, just because..well just because!

Went to K41 once when it was at KPO, with some freinds, mixed bag, German, English, Italian, couldn't get in because 'they are full', then they proceed to let in a stack load of people. We all opened our wallets, and collectively there was several hundred Deutsche Marks between us...still no go...Germann friend of mine queried the bouncer, as to why we couldn't get in ( we were not all guys either) the repsonse was, because you can't! in england that would cause a riot..and quite rightly so!! where is the business sense here in Germany!

Oh whilst i am on my soap box, P1, do you realise that it costs €300 per year membership and you have to have an interview with the owner before you get membership!! I say boycott them all! mad.gif
Ylwfvr
Great thread... I was going to ask the same question. So far, I've been to Pasha, Park Cafe, P1, Skyline (?), and various places at KPO. I have yet to find a decent place I would like to go back again. I was thorough disappointed with P1 as well. Luckily, a friend of mine is a member so i squeezed by. Let me know if you guys are organizing an event. I guess the key is 1) getting there early and 2) having a good ratio of M/F. Even having money doesn't help - I tried paying a bouncer (20euros) at Pasha once and it failed.
Big C
best club i've been to is def. Badeanstalt. I would recommend it to all who like clubbing for the music.
normally €10 entry, no dress code, no drunk people, great atmosphere, great people (both staff and customers) & quality music.
pao
Yeah, now that its been a few days I can relate our latest clubbing experience, although still just thinking about it really pisses me off.

We get to Funky Kitchen last Friday at about 10:45. The place was supposed to open at 11 for a special event (Richard Dorfmeister) which I had on the calander for 6 weeks, had gotten countless emails about, and seen flyers all over town.

They finally start letting people in. We stand in the crowd as they let in small groups. I see a few guys get turned away, and think it rather odd. We get up after they have let in 40 or 50 people and the guy takes one look at us, or rather one look at Hellcat (don't get me started), and says, "nein, sorry." Then he proceeds to let in all these people around us. We stand there for a minute or two while he looks at us with a smirk, and finally we leave.

I have never experienced anything like this, and I don't understand it, but I am coming to understand that this is quite common in this town. This has completely tainted our view of clubbing here, and it is very disconcerning. At first, I was sure there were legitemate reasons for people getting turned away. Surely, people couldn't be so shallow and meanspirited. But, it appears yes, they are.

And the worst part is that I can't help but to think that this reflects on the people who live here. They must buy into this mentality for it to continue. Sad.

Well needless to say, we won't be returning to the Funky Kitchen even if God was on the decks. I can only support and enjoy an environment that is open to all.

What is wrong with these people?
Keydeck
Pao, sorry to hear about your experience. I've had a few of them myself over the years here. Park Cafe & Prinzip being examples. The first of which I've been let in as many times as I've been turned away.

Still, thanks for giving me a smile with the image of God on the decks knocking out the tunes. biggrin.gif
MysteryMan
Yeah that sucks pao. It really gets on my tits as well, and every time it happens it ruins my f**king night. I don't know if it reflect on the people here: not all of them anyway. The guys in work hate it as much as the next guy and they are all krauts. Munich is a yuppy town and clubs who want to attract the real schicky micky types with have to gain a reputation for being exclusive. The only way to do that is to have a bizarre door policy. It pisses me off to no end: I got turned away from MilchBar last year when DJ Tonka was on the decks and I am sure he would not have played there if he knew that kind of shite was going on. Personaly I would fire off an email to
nick@funkykitchen.de or marie@funkykitchen.de to complain or dig around on http://www.g-stoned.com/ for Dorfmeister email.

Final piece of advice: get your ass on a train to Freiburg on Sat. The Dorfmeister is playing again in Rootdown and this time with Rainer Trüby. No guarantees that the door policy will be any different though sad.gif
davek
Maybe we should turn the tables around and just have a club for expats ( i know there are the TT parties, but it ain't clubbin' on a regular basis), if one has the slightest hint of shicky micky bulls**t then you ain't gonna get in! laugh.gif

Anybody got any money to start the idea off?? wink.gif i have all the ideas but no cash...!
pippin
Maybe I should't say that, but I'm German, even if I don't really feel like it and this "you can't get in"- thing has also happened to me. They took a quick look at me and my friend (an American) and told us to change our style and try again..I mean, what the hell does that mean? We weren't naked or in gown or something, just dressed casually.
The point is: not all Germans are like that. I hope you don't mind my giving a comment.
Foxy
Davek I am with you my friend, lets find a venue and start our own club night. It doesnt necessarily have to be strictly expact, as to do this would make us as bad as the idiot bouncers, and its nice to have a good mix of people.

I can supply marketing knowledge and get some good djs to come over from the UK (no-one massively famous, but excellent all the same) all we need now is investors, any volunteers?

Lets show Toytown how to club UK stylee... tongue.gif
Jimbo
How about we float a big yellow submarine on the Isar, and then use it as a nightclub, as well as a missile base to destroy all the poncey local clubs???

(Sorry peeps, but this is very much a private joke, but I couldn't resist)
Ylwfvr
No offense to folks from UK, but don't you guys have similar issues with pricklesswonder bouncers? Last time I was in London, my british friend didn't get in b/c he wasn't supposedly wearing clubbing clothes... $hit this happens even when I am in Kansas... sad but true.

I wasn't too pleased when we got "bounced" at clubs in Munich but ultimately it's pure lack of planning on our part - i.e., lack of hot chics who speak german wink.gif The part that kills me is MANY places in Munich are like...
Foxy
Jimbo - a yellow submarine would really only be appropriate for the Thames or better still the docks of Liverpool...the Isar really isnt the sort of place for that sort of thing...what a stupid suggestion! wink.gif
Foxy
London can be like that, but you dont find that sort of pretentiousness north of the border! We are lovely...
Ylwfvr
Yeah, I hear Edinburgh is a great place to party!!!
Bubble Gum
You can forget trying to get into clubs in Paris too, unless you're rich or famous.
davek
Hey Foxy!

Well finally somebody thinks on my wavelength! North of London far better anyway! What we need are UK clubs in Munich. One redeeming feature of clubs in Germany however, is that they stay open later and not this poxy 2 o'clock crap.

Foxy let's talk about this club thing..seriously i have lots of ideas!

But to Ylwfvrhasgdtevdb??? Thing is in the UK is that you KNOW what you need to dress up in to get into clubs, it's advertised, not only that the bouncers are big 'ard and take not sh*t from anybody. Here in Munich, the bouncers are weedie skinny little fer's, that you could easily take out by blowing on them! Sorry i'm not a trouble maker really...but in the Munich i could be because of the supercillious attitude. I mean c'mon i have money, (well i did before i was unemployed and when i went clubbing). Where as in Munich there is no door policy at all and it's down to the 'educated' discretion of the door people...like they have any business sense!
Jimbo
I'm with you Dave. I still do have money, I like to think I'm pretty well dressed...oh, well, actually I've only been turned away when arriving late with a group of lads, but nevertheless, I'm sure I'll be turned away soon, and when it does happen I think the expat community should rise as one and go to said club, and start a dust up with the lanky streaks of piss they call doormen, and then burn the fucking club to the ground...

POWER TO THE (expat) PEOPLE!!!
MysteryMan
I'm with ya, MilchBar will be the first against the wall when the revolution begins. smile.gif
davek
YEAH
Big C
ok. submarine idea - definately a winner!

milchbar: i've never had a problem getting in. i even went with 4 other guys all dressed very casually at 3am and they let us in. i thought it must be empty, but it was rammed. so no bad experiences there, but maybe that's the exception.

clubbing in england: yeah you can't go to certain clubs without dressing up, but you know that before because there is a dress code (shirt & shoes or clubbing gear). but here it seems random whether you get in or not, it just depends whether they like the look of you or not!

setting up a club here: yeah great idea, but not just for english speakers, for all, but no schicky mickys, no dress code, and good music. we need people in a club because they like the music not because they dress a certain way.
davek
Alrighty...

so how do we start it then...i'm up for that..lots of time see, unemployed!!! Need something to do ...bored...zzzzz can't we get a sleepy smilie option...?
MysteryMan

Oh it must be just me then... Can I join your group, please, please, please: I so very dearly want to get in there. smile.gif Anyway last time I tried was about a year ago, and back then it had a rep as being tough and arbitrary.
Big C
well milchbar is nothing special inside. normal nights are pretty average music wise. however they have lots of good DJs on as well (esp. thurs). However I haven't been to see any yet, so I don't know what it's like then. I do plan on going the next time someone good is playing.
MysteryMan
Aw, is that a no then sad.gif
Big C
you're welcome to join us out any time any place you like. cool.gif
laramegan
wow, that was quite a reaction. i'm sorry you guys hate P1 so much. i agree they are quite pretentious, but i met some really amazing people there. i guess my experience was different because my crew was all native muenchners in their early 30s. they've been around a while and are friends with the people who work there. but check out The Garden, it's off Poccistr. it might be more your style, more laid back. what kind of music are you looking for anyway? my personal favorite is drum n bass. if anyone else is a fan, although i highly doubt it, let me know and i can tell you some good places or at least good djs to look out for.
eric
where off poccistr.larameagan?

biggrin.gif Thanks for the offer! Have you enough guys to form a protective cordon around me on the way into milchbar, or maybe all dress up in black suits and shades so that you look like my bodyguards: maybe then I have a chance. biggrin.gif
eric
without forgiveness life is governed by... an endless cycle of resentment and retaliation.

MysteryMan
What you on mate?
Big C
OK i've got another club to add to the schicky mickey, only let you in if you look like a twat list.
PALAIS. I went along last night quite early 11.30, no queue, with two girls, one look at me: "are you together?" "yeah, well you can't come in with him."
ummm, why? "unless you are on the guestlist you're not coming in."

It is beginning to really piss me off, I think I'll stick to the student crap from now on, the music may be crap be at least the people are nice.

I can't wait to get back to England...
eric
