Is anyone aware of any school or hochschule with adult education classes in english in the Frankfurt region. More specifically sewing classes, but I am open to all possibilities. Thanks!

Never heard of sewing classes in English - what exactly are you hoping to make?
Maybe there is a "stitch and bitch" group in your area where you might get some useful tips?
Have you tried searching the web for beginners`projects? (assuming you are a beginner - if not, my apologies!)
If it happens to be patchwork you are into, I have several books I can recommend...

Happy sewing!

I'd be interested to know too! More so social get togethers than courses... I'm currently doing a dressmaking course in the UK and will be moving to Frankfurt in November...

I love it and intend to carry on designing/making when I move over... Perhaps if anyone is interested we could start a little group?
Drinks, chat, sewing etc...!!!

Buddy817 - where are based?

Too much alcohol and the sewing machine tends to go a bit wonky - strange that!

I am not aware of any course in English but I do know that the VHS offers courses and I was thinking of going. I could always help out with a few translation problems if we went together...

Otherwise I am very interested in some sort of group meetup. My sewing machine has been in the cellar for a few too many years now and I'd love to be designing my own clothes. However I am a long way off the most I have done so far is Christmas decorations and cushion covers!!!

Or option 2 could be if we get a group of us we might find an English speaking teacher willing to do a private group...

Not much help with sewing classes offered in English either, but can recommend two places in the area. You'd definitely need some German to get by though.

I did a dress-design course several years ago at a fabulous place in Offenbach, called Schule für Mode, Grafik und Design. It was great fun, I learnt a lot and gained so much confidence that I hardly ever buy patterns anymore and can now turn out funky and unique kids' clothing at alarming speed. They also offer beginner and advanced sewing classes as well as a whole bunch of drawing, painting and design courses.

Another great place is Martino-Stoffe in Sachsenhausen. They offer sewing classes for all levels, weekend and kids' courses as well as little refresher workshops. Groups are small, six people maximum. The ladies are lovely and extremely helpful, I go there whenever I'm stuck and in need of advice and inspiration.

Thanks for all the advice. I am going to give it some thought.

Hello, I would definitely be interested in an english speaking dress making course too so I liked the idea of looking for a teacher for a small group if enough people are interested!

I would also be interested if this gets off the ground. I'm a complete beginner with no German (yet)

Yes indeed.

Does anybody want to volunteer to get it off the ground then? I would but I am afraid I cannot commit the time at the moment as I organise so many other things.

But depending on the dates of the course I'd love to join.

I'd be in plus another friend and my sister too! Was thinking perhaps the Molino one in March?! I do see though that you need your own machine for that one, so that might not be any good for some people...?! Anyhoo, what does everyone fancy? Looks like we'd have a good group if everyone definitely wants to do it. Anyone tailors out there in the TT community of Frankfurt & vicinity who fancy teaching a group how to sew, patterns etc.??

Hey guys!

I am still definitely interested in getting something going, sounds like there could be quite a group of us!
It's been a while but I finally made the move to Frankfurt a couple of weeks ago and am now living in Sachsenhausen..

My German is minimal to say the least but I'm open to doing a course and fumbling my way through it, hopefully that will improve my vocab! I realised actually I only live about 2 mins walk from Martino-Stoffe too.

I'm free most evenings, or if anyone is interested in doing a day time course I'm pretty flexible as I work freelance...

I have just started a course at Martino Stoffe and am quite impressed. I can now thread my machine without swearing!

If I ever improve on that maybe we should get a sewing meet together if anyone still interested.

Hi everyone

I've never done proper sewing before but if I do move to Frankfurt (possibly Nov) I'll contact you guys to see if you'll accept me in your group.

Cheers
