For me it was
Incunabula by Autechre, this is possibly the greatest work of electronica in existence. Even if you 'don't like' electronic music at least try and get a copy of
444, the last track on the album, (it still moves me to tears even when I listen to it 15 years after it was released), and I defy you not to be affected by it.

Master of Puppets - Metallica. Changed my life, it did.
Not really my thing anymore, but my whole teenage existence revolved around that band and their music.

Good choice. And for me, I would say that the album
Voyager from German electonic maestros Velvet Universe opened my eyes.

Without doubt
Horslips - Happy to Meet Sorry to Part. At a time when every young Irish person hated Irish music, they made it popular. We used to dance to Horslips and Thin Lizzy at the disco. (I know that dates me!!!)
The Shamrock Shore is one of my favourites.
Dance to yer Daddy - A (-n Irish) take on a children's folk song.
I love them as much today as I did back in the 70's.

Garth Brooks - Roping the Wind, the song Shameless (written by Billy Joel) was a cross over hit to the pop channel I listened to, got me to switch the station to the country music channel for the drive home! Never gone back!

"Disentegration" by The Cure.
I first heard it when I was 11, and STILL listen to it at the age of 29. It's absolutely amazing... and not at all depressing, as some critics seem to take great pleasure in repeating.
Same goes for The Smiths and Morrissey - my word, where would I be without "Meat Is Murder", "The Queen Is Dead" or "Hatful of Hallow"?
I feel very lucky, believe me.
