Reasons to be cheerful in 2008

Come on, there must be something

Ok, so i'm feeling totally crap physically and mentally and it seems most everyone on here is in the same boat.

What with the credit crunch, banking collapses, Wiesn flu et al, it all looks kind of gloomy.

So I thought I might revive this thread from days of yore and see if anyone has any good news to cheer us all up and give a reason to see the light at the end of the tunnel as something other than an oncoming train.

Reasons to be cheerful 1,2,3

I'll have first go, my son is doing really well in Uni with a 4.0 average and someday he will be able to buy me a Ferrari. smile.gif

Come on people, give us some cheer in these dark days.

There are piles of fallen dry leaves all over the place just begging to be jumped on.

My 4 year old did much better than anyone expected at his appt this morning with the "child experts", so maybe there is some hope for him in this country.

However, I was told I should improve my German. rolleyes.gif

There will be more to be cheerful about when Obama wins next month... *grin*

Munich has seasons, and in 2008 each one up to now (beginning with spring) has been a classic.

2008 is the year where we can finally afford to start living like a '"normal" family. roll on 2009

The Herbstferien are coming up in Lower Saxony and I get to sleep in instead of getting up at 6:15 every morning!

Other than that, doom and gloom here too.

Bluedave, surely you can take some joy from looking forward to January when your new arab overlords are apparently going to behave like a small child playing on a hacked copy of 'Championship Manager' and buy all the top football talent from around the globe?

Anyway, sometimes the best way to cheer up is to look at somebody else's misfortune, so I just stabbed my left testicle with a biro for you all. It really hurts, and was not a wise thing to do.

I'm off to Neustadt an der Weinnstrasse for their wine festival tomorrow. Can't wait - though I daresay that will mean I will inevitably be gloomy on Monday!

This feel-good feeling you get until you reach the testicle messages reminds me of the final scene in Carrie.. A tad scary soooooo be warned.

Blimey. Carrie had testicles? That explains her personal issues then...

Nice research trip with friends and tour-guide colleagues to Potsdam tomorrow - great Autumn/Fall colours/colors in Park Sanssouci, noble palaces, good company - really looking forward to it.

Feeling cheerful because my HR colleague told me at work today that I look really bad and should have stayed home, and my boss waved off the idea of me working from home tomorrow, so I can rest in bed totally guilt-free while I shake off this flu.

That we found the most amazing flat right in the middle of Munich, and that I'm sharing it with the best man on the planet smile.gif

Strange, I was actually quite happy at home with my wife in Schleswig-Holstein. ph34r.gif

Well, since Johnny English and Keydeck seem to be in bed, then somebody had to keep up the TT standards!

I really hope you are right, because if you're not then a lot more people apart from you and BD will be needing serious help being cheerful.

Be cheerful.
At least you're not having to taste test brussel sprouts like I am, because someone's kiddy actually likes them, but her dad refuses to touch them.
Brussel. Sprouts.

Schadenfreude be yours.

If you live in Munich, there is a super awesome reason to be cheerful today - or at least, there was yesterday, and it might be an on-going thing:

I was doing a bit of Chinese grocery shopping yesterday just off Munchener Freiheit at the chinese shop, the name of which I've forgotten. Anyway, I went into the walk in fridge to get a sack of beansprouts, and heard a strange noise..a sort of scratching, writhing noise of little tiny exoskeletons clambering over one another, the source of which was a pile of polystyrene containers with little holes in the sides. What did I see? Yep, little biddy crab legs poking out and probing the outside air. FRESH LIVE CRABS! In Munich! And not at stupid Viktualienmarkt rip-off touristic prices.

How completely great is that!?! Diddy little crabby chaps just begging to be killed and eaten, perhaps Singapore Chilli-crab style, which is without doubt a fine way to fodder these little fellows. For me, crustaceans are the culinary equivalent of a blow job, I was stoked.

If this becomes a regular occurrence at the Chinese shop, then life in Munich has just got better by a factor of awesome.

Cheerful now only because I'm hoping that in 2009 I will no longer be in Germany!
planetmoni
looking forward to 2009 as it will be much better.
