I just started on the 'Nuva Ring' 3 weeks ago because I thought it would be easier to deal with (rather than the daily monitored pill). Sadly it's made my period heavier and longer and I'm thinking of asking my gyno to change it, but I want some ideas from real users before I walk into her office.
What do you use? What are the pros and cons of the one you use? I'm particularly interested in hearing from ladies who use the implant or the injection.
Thanks!

This is word of mouth rather than personal experience, but a friend of mine used the injection (depo provera, I believe) and didn't like it. It made her bleed for weeks at a time, and as an added bonus, puts you at greater risk of osteoporosis.
I used the pill, and found the "daily" part much more palatable when I set an alarm on my phone to go off every day and carried a spare pill in my wallet. That way I didn't have to keep an eye on the time myself, and even if I forgot to bring the pack I was covered.

I used the injection for 5 years and it was fantastic (although I know that isn't the case with everyone). My periods stopped completely, which was a godsend as I used to get awful cramps and sometimes had to take time off work because of them. The only downside, which I'll never really know was caused by the injection or not, was that I put on at least a stone in weight and now I'm off all contraceptive, not finding it easy to lose.
Also, remember, if you do want to get pregnant, it can take upto 12 months for normal fertility to return after stopping the injection.
Hope this helps.

I would have though your GP /HausÄrtz is the best person to talk to..
I have a friend who has the coil fitted for over 3 yrs and she has no problems or side effects at all, where as my GF has one fitted and she has much heavier periods now than she had before and extreeeeemly sore boobs for a few days prior...

I use the Persona system after a girl-friend (who used it successfully for five years) turned me on to it. I love it. Hated taking the pill and allergic to condoms. It does have a higher rate of accidental pregnancies (6 in 100) than the pill (1 in 100 I believe) though. I'm fine with that, but I wouldn't suggest it if you are not in a committed relationship and seeing babies in your future anyway. Been using it sine March.

there is a thread in the
private Ladies Forum about contraceptives, the NUVA RING has mixed reports.
maybe give it longer; you say it´s only been 3 weeks. in any case, do report back to your doctor about it, especially as you say your period is heavy & longer.
in my experience it can sometimes take a while to find your perfect contraceptive, good luck!

I usethe Nuvo ring and have to say the first 3 months my periods were also heavier, I would get cramps even when not on my period and my sex drive completely dissappeared.
I considered to move to the pill after I ran out of the rings, so after 3 months, but I had just discovered I had a food allergy and often had upset stomach and so kept with the ring as the pill would not have been any good for me with those problems.
I have to say that now, after 6 months my periods are back to normal, lighter than before if anything, I have no cramps at any time and have a sex drive again. Although my food allergy is now under control and I could move to the pill, I am now more than happy with the ring and sticking with it.
You just need to give your body time to adjust, but it will

I had my dog's testicles cut off. The operation was straight forward and the next day he was up and running as usual. It also calmed him down a lot in the longer term. Maybe worth considering.

The funny part of the story is going back to the same clinic to have it done again, telling the first timers in the waiting room what had happened to him.
Wouldn't that suggest the snip missed the desired target the first time?

Pas - I'm not a doctor. All I know is that he had a vasectomy and his wife didn't get pregnant for years until their youngest daughter. So he returned for another operation.

I was on the NuvaRing for a year and a half after my daughter was born. I think my doctor didn't trust that I would be able to remember to take a pill every day as a new mother.
Anyway, I got headaches with my period, which I never had before. Now I'm on Seasonique (here in the US), on which you theoretically get your period only every three months. I have to take the pills at pretty much the exact same time every day, or you'll have breakthrough bleeding and/or an early period. Not great if you travel or don't have a very regular daily schedule.

I will speak to her, of course, but I want to hear personal experiences and know what questions to ask if she suggests something else. I don't automatically trust that doctors give the 'right' answers.

It's technically possible, but not very likely. Medical humour refers to them as "backwards children".
Indeed, a tainted conception.

I read some stuff about marijuana, where they did a test on a load of people and found that for a daily dope smoker, sperm is rendered so inactive that it essentially makes 70% of stoners infertile. What an awesome concept - get stoned, have sex, and no worries about babies.
Sadly, I'm either in the other 30% or the research was all bollocks because my bitch totally got up the spout. Can't have been the postman either, because ours is a bird.

Yes, I'm sure it would be pretty much guaranteed. However as you see in this diagram

the anus and vagina are pretty close to each other. My experience is that when you're thrusting away in the dark it's quite possible to hit the wrong target. Kids be warned.
