I have been doing some tests with our Arcor internet. I have my laptop connected directly to the WLAN box (via cable) and am getting the following speeds using www.speadtest.net...

Download = approx 2000 kb/s
Upload = 180 kb/s

This seems quite slow, right? Does anyone else use Arcor? The following is my package with Arcor, but I do not know how it translates to the maximum internet speed I should be seeing?

Arcor-Komfort-Anschluss: Arcor - Sprache telefon flat
Arcor-Internet-Anschluss: Arcor - Internet flat
Bandbreite: Bandbreite 2000

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Bandbreite: Bandbreite 2000

Notice any similarity here?

Looks like I found the webpage on Arcor site that shows what the contract I have means.. so mine says Bandbreite 2000, which seems to (now obviously) translate to the item below for "2000", which says the max download is 2048.

Ok, so my question is now regarding the WLAN box, which is the Arcor-DSL WLAN-Modem 200. I am not sure if this supports "g" protocol or just "b". Where can I determine this? And is this important for me? My wireless card on my desktop computer uses "g" protocol.

The "g" protocol runs at up to 54Mbits/s, the "b" runs at 11Mbits/s. In both cases these are maximum figures and rarely reached - reckon on average 50% of the quoted values. Your internet runs at 2Mbits/s, so is less than half the speed of 50% of "b". Ergo your internet is MUCH slower than your local network, so unless you move masses of data around the local network choosing or using "b" or "g" is irrelevant.

Thanks YorkshireLad6 ! That was helpful.
