Life in the town of Memmingen

Thoughts on living there, and connections to Ulm

Freakster
Hi,

Wondered if anyone had any first hand experience in the town of Memmingen. We found an apartment (online) that appears to suit our needs quite well. We're coming down next week and will have a look around, but does anyone have a general impression of the town from living or visiting there? Reading about it online, Memmingen seems like it would be fairly family friendly and have some nice summer festivals to attend, along with decent connections to Ulm and for the rare occasion, Munich.

Thanks.

I am so thankful to Memmingen, as I met my future (and still present) wife there in 1991! Great town.

Cool. I already have a wife, but we'll be checking the town out next week on the second half of our vacation. Maybe I'll do a small write-up of my impression of the place for others to reference.

Hi, I went to my german language school there every day. It is a nice and convenient town, nice persons and various shopping choices. These days they rebuilt the a lot of roads, now it seems more organized. It is very easy to visit a lot of lovely villiage and small towns nearby. I love this town.

I guess you are already in Memmingen, but here's my tuppence worth.

Memmingen centre is beautiful and very old. I recently asked my clients for some historical tidbit about the town and this is what they told me.

Memmingen is famous for being the town that had the moon.

Apparently the residents of the town found one evening that they had captured the moon in some water in the town centre. They sent message to the most important person in the area only to be labelled as fools when the sun rose the next morning and the moon's reflection disappeared.

I think that's such a charming story, of its veracity I know nothing.

You can get almost everything you need here, and connections to Munich, Ulm, Stuttgart and the rest of Europe are excellent. Of course we have the new airport which is gradually becoming more and more useful for European travel.

I hope you like it here as much as I do.

Memmingen is a cool little town. I played ice-hockey there back in 1998, and my son now plays in their youth soccer program, which is 2nd to none in it´s area! They have a couple of GREAT festivals (partys ), a medieval festival, and Fishers Day, where they all jump into the little river that runs through town and try to catch fish bare-handed!! A lot of fun!!
I´m assuming from the date of your email...that you´ve been there now for awhile...how is it???
