Children's theaters in Hamburg/Lüneburg

Where to take the kids to see performances

mlovett
Hi, I've searched and did not find any postings about children's theaters in the general Hamburg area (I am south, in the Lüneburger Heide). I saw a sign for Kindertheater in Hamburg's city park (Planten & Blomen), but it seems from my online research that it's only in summer.

My son really enjoyed this back in the States. Does anyone have any recommendations? What is the minimum age (he is almost 4)? Puppet shows would also be good.

Also, are there any showings of the Nutcracker that children are allowed to attend? I know it's early... but in San Francisco, you need to buy months in advance! It's a family tradition for us...

thanks!

There's quite a few thing in Hamburg for kids, but nothing in English I think (not that I know of at least). If it doesn't matter that it's in German try these:

Fundus Kindertheater Eilbek (Wandsbek)

Theather für Kinder This one is at Max-Brauer-Allee, I'm not entirely sure, but I think it used to be called "Klick" - if it's that one it has a really long tradition, I went there when I was a kid…

just google for Kindertheater Hamburg, there's lots more.

Thank for your response, Hammonia! German would be just fine; my son understands it quite well (probably better than I do).

Do you know if there are performances of the Nutcracker at Christmas time, that children are allowed to attend? What about other performances, such as orchestra, etc? In California there are a lot of free performances where kids are very much encouraged to attend; gets them started early.

Again, thank you. I realize Google is my friend, but my German is limited and so my frustration level escalates quickly when I try to read the weblinks...

For those interested, there is a showing this coming Saturday of a funny German children's book about a mole who gets pooped on (the head), and goes around trying to find out who did it. We are going to attend. There is a lot of animal poop involved. My son watched the YouTube video just now, and I don't think he has ever laughed so hard...

I've been scrabbling about in my head already, there was some kind of kid thing last year, thought it was on the Alster lake, but my search didn't bring the result I was looking for.

Also don't think it was the Nutcracker, but some kind of Christmasy kids theatre... will try and find out.

edit: I just found the Nutcracker! (Am surprised myself)
It's on at January 10th, in the Audimax (that's on the university campus)

Eine kindgerechte, unterhaltsame Aufführung mit Erzähler.
Ab 4 Jahre.
Here's the link for seats and prices

good work, Hammonia!! I will be buying tickets! Too bad that it's not before Christmas (helps get me "in the mood"), but that's ok. Beggars can't be choosers. Vielen Dank!!

Ok, not exactly theater... but there are two circuses coming to Hamburg this month: Roncalli and Flic Flac. It looks to me like the former is more geared at families/kids, the latter at adults. Does anyone know? Was it fun?

hi there!

i though it might be interesting for you to know that there's Festival Hamburger Kinderteaher happenning now till October 10. All performances will take place in Fundus Kinderteather: Hasselbrookstraße 25, 22089 Hamburg, 040 / 250 72 70.

The festival link: http://www.hamburger-kindertheater.de

Another one is KinderKinder festival, international music and theatre festival for kids, 14.09.-17.11.2008. It's a yearly event and they invite very intereresting productions for kids from all over the world. Check out: http://www.kinderkinder.de.

As it was said earlier here, traditionally there's Christmas theatre for kids , with many participating theatres on the Reeperbahn

For movie lovers, Wall-E, new Disney cartoon, is running now. We normally go to the Cinemax, @Dammtor.

The last and very important one: always check for what age performance/movie is intended. We couldn't buy movie tickets once and another time were not allowed to the kids museum.

Have a great weekend!

@Darjeeling, thank you for that information!! We will definitely be checking out some of the events at the festival. looks good!
