Hi,

we're a German-American family that recently moved to Dahlenburg, about 20 km east of Lueneburg. My husband grew up in Schleswig-Holstein and we lived in Hamburg and NY (Westchester County) before deciding to raise our kids in Germany. Our girls are 6 and 2, and we're looking for families with young kids in the area (loosely defined!) for playdates and activities together.

Hope to hear from some of you!

Enjoy the Autumn weather as long as it lasts. For an outing I recommend: the wildlife park L端neburger Heide...

Make a point of seeing the display of falconry...

Thanks for the suggestion! I think we've been to every zoo within 100 km... the kids love them, they're relatively inexpensive, and they're outdoors. Unfortunately, I can't stand the smell ;) And even though my daughter loves the monkeys, they aren't really good at playing Polly Pockets... poor kid wants a friend that speaks her language :(

Hello! We aren't too far from you (Buchholz in der Nordheide). My son is nearly 4. He is in Kindergarten in the afternoons, but morning could work. Do your kids understand German? There is a play for kids happening this Saturday afternoon, that we will attend, of a funny German kid's book, about a mole who gets pooped on... on the head, and his search to figure out which animal did it. It's pretty crazy, but my son thinks it's HILARIOUS.

We often go to the animal park in Nindorf, which is really fun! I keep meaning to go to the Magic park in Verden soon... Let me know what else you find in your area -- I posted a thread a while back looking for ideas; it's pretty quiet there.

Hi,

actually my daughter's in first grade... til they throw her out she's learning a great deal (she's got about 25 words, but her favorite is Unterhose). And I teach, so mornings are almost impossible The magic park sounds like fun- I'm not sure how far it is, but I'd be interested in more info!

Actually (with exception of a few Elk) all animals at the place I suggested are European.
Generally there is no smell unless you stand close to the foxes or the wild boar.

Strongly recommend the display of falconry (could be shutting down for Winter soon) and the feeding of the wolves.

Hi!
we are just about to move to L端neburg. Both me and my husband are German (and I even grew up in L端neburg) but have spent the last 12 years or so abroad - mainly UK. We have one son (nearly 20 months) who is bilingual, and another one due in December. It would be very nice to be able to meet up with some native English-speakers!
