Where to find a children's music teacher - Hamburg

Places to look, personal recommendations, etc.

Hello,
I am not happy with my daugther’s piano teacher. He is German old school, i.e. my daughter has to practice etudes over and over and over again. I think that he is a thorough and good teacher who wants to develop students to perform in concerts. But somehow that doesn't fit at the moment to my almost 7-year old daughter’s personality. Do you know anybody in the “Elbvororte” who teaches music for children (it can be any instrument) more the American way, i.e. enthusiastic with an eye for *fun* while learning? For instance, my daughter *loves* to sing. Therefore, if she could practice those songs on the piano her motivation would be higher. Music lessons in English would be great.

Any advice will be very much appreciated.
Thanks, Ina

Hi Ina,

I am a guitar tutor of 6 years, moved to Hamburg 6 months ago from South Africa. I have just turned 27. You will find my ad up in the 'adverts' section of the Hamburg forum regarding private guitar lessons. I can imagine your daughters frustration, I teach many beginners, mostly children, and I know the importance of teaching them music that is fun to keep their enthusiasm levels up. My usual approach is to get the student familiar with the basics, and to then teach them music that they want to play, whatever the genre may be. I would love to teach your daughter if you are interested. I am currently located in Ottensen.

Thanks, Jason.
