howdy peeps... last minute edition of 'what's going on in electronic music in munich'
tonight we have live act richard bartz and phenomenal house/tech dj [and all around really nice guy] tobi neumann @ the club inventively called... 'Club' in the nightlife complex @ Landsbergerstrasse 185 [it's hard to miss... walk into the entrance across from the gas station & bus drop-off, through the parking lot, through the concrete hallway and you're there]
happy saturday ya'll!

if you dig the eclectro stuff then i can highly recommend the latest Kid Alex choon on Gigolo Records - 'Boys Noize - The Bomb'. am just playing the vinyl to death & may need a 2nd copy very soon !! am sure if you've been to an International Deejay Gigolos nite then you would have been rockin' out to this one ! it totally gets under your skin ...a 'Ganshaut' number :-)

great fawkin track. electro is probably my favorite genre of tronica if i were forced to choose... on that bent, the outdoor dj dropped a little old-school 'space invaders' early sunday morn
opening dj was pretty solid if a little 'epic' for that early in the eve... bartz's live act was amazing... didn't stay for much of smiley tobi's set because he didn't get on till around 4am and i needed to force feed myself a balanced weekend, which included seeing the sun @ some point.
fun night as gigolo always seems to throw down.
you go to the dj hell night monthly @ registratur?

the club night is called 'Electric Delicate' and I think the club itself is called 'Nachtwerk'
Was it a good night? How busy was it?

@izabella
for me, it's taken a couple of years to start 'feelin' the electro vibe full on and even now i am very selective about the choons i buy and play out. the other release that does it for me this year has to be 'Mike Monday - That shit was good...' and probably one of the albums this year has to be 'Mylo - Destroy Rock n Roll'. i tend to come from the breakz side of electronica and DJs like Adam Freeland throwing in electro with breakz these days has influenced me quite heavily !
As for a Gigolo Records nite out ..never managed one which considering I have been in MUC for several years is strange :-) When I was at the Funky Kitchen for LTJ Bukem I popped into a backroom where they were playing some groovy electro beats. the problem is i am a trainspotter/vinyl-junkie and my tastes cover virtually everything so i am literally drowning in music !
So, I guess you recommend the Hell night as the premier electro nite to go to in Munich ?

strange... you're right about the nachtwerk part... but i think the whole name is nachtwerk club and everyone i know just calls it 'club'... who knows/cares... but the mods changed the title to badeanstalt... which is entirely wrong... confusion reigns ;-)
@a - dj hell's monthly @ registratur is hands-down the best residency munich has going for it currently IMHO. he's taking january off but then he's back in february. i love good quality breaks... freeland's the man! didn't really know too much about the genre until the first time i saw zabiela @ space miami during the winter music conference in 2003... since then i've been all over it. on that note, stanton warriors were just in town last month...

@izabella ...breakz IMHO is just full of QUALITY producers whether it be the Stantons ('Da Virus' IS an anthem !), Plump DJs, Freeland, Meat Katie, Ils, D Ramirez and so on. James Zabiela to me comes more from the Progressive Breakz side of things which I enjoy (along with Hybrid, Way Out West, etc) but I am more from the funky electro side.. this track by 'Plump DJs - Electric Disco' really explains my sound !:
http://www.htfr.com/more-info/?catno=MR37181Ooops, I've gotten all trainspottie :-) Didn't make Stantons, but was at the Plumps this year in The Garden.

i see you have the tronica illness. brutal, eh? sucks up your time, money and energy & then spits you out monday morning, if you're lucky ;-)
fyi... there's another gigolo head in town this weekend

i would never call it an illness, just a seriously large passion that takes over my life ! certain sounds move me into certain states of pleasure or euphoria ...sounds a bit deep but it's not so ..music simply lifts me up, it is my drug maaaaaaaaan :-)
in fact i think you sound way more hardcore than I regarding the partying and getting spat out on monday morning bit :-) i am after all an old dawg who's entrance into proper electronica - bar Kraftwerk - was with all the Artificial Intelligence, Aphex Twin, Orbital, Sabres of Paradise sounds in the early early nineties ...it came to a head in '94 when i was listening to Herr Vaeth @ Dorian Gray in FFM & digging Laurent Garnier and Cosmic Baby ! Rave on :-)
thx for the link ...it has a good link in itself to the 'El-Sol' Electronic Solutions website ...alas, i won't be here for this partaay...
Izabella
Dec 20 2004, 9:31 pm
i'm chronically obsessed with tronica myself in case it isn't obvious by my persistent attempts to rally the troups to events here on TT
have you heard vaeth's sounds of the 5th season yet? with the exception of the horns section blaring obnoxiously in the first track it's pure excellence... old man's still got it
i won't be around for t.bar this weekend either... in fact i think i'm layin low till mid-january... gotta split the music vs mountain obsessions up

so i take it you missed hybrid at the garden last week!!!

well, i am obsessed with all sorts of music ..so i can totally dig where you're coming from ! you should live it like you love it :-)
haven't heard sven's sounds of 5th season and haven't actually bought one of his albums since Fusion in '98 but i dare say i may well check some samples out to see where he's at ...have just been feeding off tonnes of vinyl releases lately that have come through in the pre-xmas rush & bankrupted me to f++k !
anyways, have fun chillun' in the mountains ...a friend of mine boarding in powder and sunshine called me today and told me to walk out of work, hire a car and head down there !! i will be waiting until next week and may start filming a new snowboard video with a full-on breakz soundtrack but that's another story ...!

@will - hybrid was @ the GARDEN?! how the hell did i miss hearing about that? i gotta expand my crew out of the pure techno heads i'm running with obviously
@a - you sound like 90% of my friends back home... can't decide whether to spend their money on vinyl or boarding... these are nice problems to contend with

@ worm ..didn't realise they were here ! but then pre-xmas in munich is always mad full of gigs and djs. as i only live a 10-15 minute walk from The Garden it's not like it's much of an effort ! they do manage to pull in some quality acts in that place ..i'd been to High Contrast, Plump DJs, Miss Lady Kier and a host of other good stuff there
@ izabella ..yeah life is particularly hard in munich :-) apart from music & sports, i have to work out where i am going travelling each year which requires a lot of thought ...and besides those things i'm into all sorts of stuff ...too many interests & not enough time basically ! and apropos The Garden ...another quality producer is in town who for me joins the dots between Electro and Tech House/Techno - Steve Bug - is playing on 28th December ...i guess a part of your tronica obessesion, Izabella ?
http://www.the-garden.dewhich reminds ..you probably lost it on the dancefloor over the past year to his rather HUGE remix of 'Freaks - The Creeps You're Giving Me' ..MP3 sample available here:
http://www.htfr.com/more-info/?catno=MR145565right time to work ..no more trainspotting

lost it is being generous... FRIQUED OUT more like it! that song reminds me so much of the outdoor summer festivals... and club4 afterhours... i think the dj there played that song there every sunday morning i dragged myself over there. one of those rare crossover tracks that i heard get play both here in europe and all over the states...
i'm in for bug if i'm back from boarding by then... 50% chance the mountain will keep me till next friday though
travel is also an obsession... my website is dedicated to the two months i take off every year to go backpacking... this year in march/april i'm going to myanmar, laos, cambodia & vietnam... never been to southeast asia so i'm soooo psyched... i'm already having dreams of meandering down the highway 1 coastline of vietnam from HCMC to Hanoi on a dilapidated vespa stopping at mystical pagodas and sleeping on deserted beaches... course i'll bring my MP3 player... can't go two months with only karaoke to tide me over musically ;-)

Also will be at sweet uk garage night on friday@garden, and knee deep house night on the saturday there too.

two months off ...& there was me thinking life was sweet

well, i have been plenty of places ..my bro lives in Thailand so I was there with him a couple of years ago and also in Vietnam. I was doing a round the world trip and Vietnam was most definitely a highlight !! it's a seriously fast changing country which i would love to go back to and i was there in April time which weather-wise was okay. we were just in the north around Hanoi and Halong Bay so if you need any tips/opinions on that part feel free to email me. i'm not so sure that you'd be on a dilapidated vespa as that would be rather classy for Vietnam ..more likely a Honda ! But you're right about mystical pagodas and deserted beaches
as for choonage when you're travelling ..i always take a cd walkman and speakers with enough strength to fill a dingy hostel room ! although when i went to south america this year i didn't take anything as i was trekking and had to travel lite ...still, i managed to hear new stuff via internet cafes
as for the Bug remix ...that track could simply be played forever ...it's hypnotic and can be looped around again and again !

'handing out flyers' ...do you work there or is that for your own club night somewhere in Munich ?
