I have searched around and there were some topics on this but nothing with this problem, so nipping the 'use the search button' posts in the bud...
I've got a Vonnage voip box from the US and have it hooked up but it isn't recognizing the german telephone I have hooked up to it. The box itself seems connected to the line allright since it shows the voicemail I have waiting for me, so I must deduce the problem is between the telephone and the voip box.
My question is - are the signals sent through phone lines here done on different wires (I know its an RJ11 I mean the wires inside of it) than the US or anything? Is it possible I need to strip the phone cord and swipe wires around or order a US phone?

ok...
Quick and dirty way of doing it..
The outer left and inner left connections on the RJ11, twist together..
The outer right and inner right.....
Job done!

Should I do this on both ends or just the one going in the phone

You have to turn back, would you turn 180 degrees or 360 degrees?
If you switch both ends you go back to the beginning.

I am using a vonage box and a german cordless 2 handset AudioLine and it works plug and play.

Were they friends previously?
