DOH DOH DOH Darn you, Pootle!
I walked past it at lunch time today, and was just gonna post about it. Just got back home now!
What is there at the moment is... a huge white banner inside saying "Starbucks opening soon!". Like they had in
Schwabing.

decaf molotov? or low-fat choco-mocca molotov with a caramel twist?

correct -
Starbucks does not franchise, unlike MickeyD's.
molotov? oh please. last time I checked, communism didn't work. let's get over ourselves. if you like the coffee, buy the coffee; if you don't like the coffee, don't buy the coffee. clearly a lot of people, world over, like it quite a bit. throw your cocktail at them, if your knickers are in such a twist about its success.

And unfortunately there are a quite a lot of people who follow style and trends without thinking whether they actually like what they are consuming, be it coffee, clothes, TV progs, music.
As long as they are seen to be up there following what everyone else does.

People go to
Starbucks because it's cool? Perhaps those in in the 18-21 year old range who give a shit about that, but not your average person. People go to Starbucks, because their favorite frappacino or double chocolate cake is there, not because it's cool.

starbucks does licence/franchise. starbucks germany was run by KarstadtQuelle until recently, when KQ sold the german franchise back to the mother ship for 18million (forget whether that was EUR or USD).
Starbucks spain for example is run by the folks who run the VIPS stores

There are nicer places for a coffee to go in the area tbh.

joint ventures, not franchises.

no doubt. better coffee lots of places and better atmosphere available as well, in my opinion. my point was they'll stay if the people buy and expand if people buy, and leave/not expand if not. to blame the company and not the customers that keep them in business and expanding is, in my opinion, stupid.

Starbucks isn't really my cup of tea (ahem) but whatever turns you on. As long as it doesn't get to New York City levels, where you can often see the next
Starbucks down the street from your vantage point in the window of Starbucks.
But remember, it's *only* a coffee shop.

I hear you - there were 5 within a one block of my office in San Francisco! I prefer Peet's when I'm in that neck of the woods.
here it seems any hole in the wall can make a far better capuccino that sbux. my opinion.

Well the Anarchist tried to firebomb in Portland last year. It is the only
Starbucks in the nation that i know of that has ramming along the windows to prevent stolen cars being thrown into it. They say it is because of the anarchist but hey they (Starbucks) moved in across from the Anarchist headquarters of Portland. Well I personaly will aviod it but for those who frequent enjoy! I being a coffee snob have only found two places in Germany that serve great esspreso.

Being the Anarchist that I am, I make better coffee and cheaper at that. Seriously, I have not a clue what the fuss is about
Starbucks. I will gladly charge you 6€ for a real cup of coffee with whatever you want in it. Seriously!
Note: Did you know that a large cup of java has more caffiene in it than does an expresso?

eurovol, are you centrally located, available from 6am - midnight? You mind if I sit on your sofa for about 3 hours and then spill my coffee?
hey and I will certainly never pay €6 for your coffee
The new
Starbucks is in a convienent location for me, not served by any of the other major coffee chains, and where the little coffee shops close aroudn 6pm. If there was a little place, I'd be using it.

Looked to be open today, unless that was an employee walking out with a beverage in a paper cup. Wonder if Sendlingerstrasse will be able to support two Tchibos, a
Starbucks, and the several sit-down cafes?
