What'll happen to the UK's new housing stock?

Given that it is built so badly?

I am currently staying in a new-build flat for 2 weeks until the house I'm moving into is ready -

the place im in is supposed to be 'luxury executive apartments' but absolutely everything in here is absolute rubbish and falling apart already. The finishing is simply diabolical and you can tell everything has been done as cheaply as possible

the worst thing is that people pay full whack to live in a shithole like this!!

Looking at the building, i cant believe that it will still be standing in 20 years, and I suppose most other new builds are the same!
Im sure the situation is the same in the states too

I didnt see any bad buildings in germany when I was there- or are they equally bad these days?

My question is, do you think the government will allow developers to keep building in this way, with these undurable materials for much longer? Is it in the governments interest for developers to continually build shit buildings so that they fall down quickly and thus have to be built again? Surely its un-environmentally sound to keep throwing up these cardboard rabbit hutches! and why do people in the uk put up with this shit?
Schotte
presumably the fact noone can afford to buy a house in this climate is a factor?
worm
that would make sense if they then sold such crappy flats really cheaply, but they are still damn expensive!!
SpiderPig
Cheap polish labour...

Its your own fault for letting them into your country..

Typical short term penny pinching that is endemic to the UK rather than wisely investing for the future.

Well, if you're wanting to blame town planners or building control, you'd have to be a little careful - my sister is currently on maternity leave from her town planning position and often has to work in very unclear circumstances. There's so much case law and confusing government regulation that it's very difficult to actually plan.
Plus there's still the concept of the "Englishman and his castle" and being able to do exactly what you want on your own property, whether it is building tiny box-like flats, grotesque extensions or just plain unsafe shacks.
It's all about rights, not duties and also is due to having the quick return.
Short-term thinking has been fueled by the no-end of stories of fortunes made via property trading. Just turn on your (UK) TV, open the Sunday papers or go to any British dinner party...
Cutting corners for speed, cheap - often unskilled - labour, quick turnover = more profit
My father was a Clerk of Works, I'd hate to take him into such a home, he'd be picking out faults within seconds...
