Foxy
Hello crazy people, I am a fresh new person to this fine wee city and would welcome the opportunity to make some nice new friends.

I am going clubbing on Friday night to Palais, with some "new" mates, anybody been? Whats it like? What kinda music? Anybody going?

Whats the general scene like here, not necessarily clubbing but other stuff.
sparty
Hello Foxy, you might want to check out the lads/girls night in the Regular Events. It should be fun, and I'm sure you'll meet new people!
Keydeck
Hi Foxy,

I've been to Palais for the Wittl & Friends night. It's pretty good. It's a fairly small club which used to be a strip-joint. It's in an alleyway just up from Hauptbahnhof. Basically there's a chill-out area as you go in with a couple of sofas. Then upstairs you have the bar area and the dance-floor/DJ box are in a room of to the back. On the Wittl night the music covers a wide range from popular hits back to 80's stuff. It's the kinda thing you can really get into without being bombarded by some of the heavier club stuff that's around. Having said that I don't know what's on this Friday so it could be completely different. Anyway, as I said it's a small place but that gives it a good atmosphere and I'd definitely be on for going back there.

Enjoy.

Foxy
Thanks Sparty, yeah it looks cool I am always up for a party!!
sparty
you have to contact beans for the details if you want to join the girls night out which will result in a lads/girls night out...
Jimbo
Beans isn't on today (so far anyway) so I'm just saying to all and sundry, come on down to the Schelling Salon - hopefully there will be a few of each gender about and so it should be a laugh, whether or not you can or want to shoot some pool. If enough girls and boys show, we'll hopefully be able to organise lads and girls nights out that meet-up later in the night. We just need support for this first event, so please do come along!

And Foxy - the Nachtgalerie, which is also not to far from Hauptbahnhof is a real scream - huge and cheap and quite young in it's clientele, but if you want to be able to get drunk on 10€ then it's the place for you! We may (some of us) head down there later on on Friday...
sparty
yess, Nachtgalerie is ALWAYS a good idea!! It's the best solution of going out even when you don't have money... tongue.gif
Foxy
Keydeck - grateful for all your info, thanks a lot.

Just heard that it is a former brothel...iiinteresting!!!

Apparently its house on a Friday, so looking forward to shakin some serious booty! Definitely need the energy release.

When is the next Toytown night out?

Aaaaaaarrrrghhhh!!! Read the fucking threads!!
Jimbo
There's curry tonight, there's pool on Friday, a girls night god knows when, the Stammtisch on Saturday has some Toytowners along normally, and then there's now a Tuesday night beer in Gunther Murphys.

And now and again people just post seeing if other people wanna go out... There's a bit of choice, and if you surf over to the Munich Dining Club there's a dinner pretty much weekly for people new in town (link to MDC is top right of your page!)
Foxy
When you say young Jimbo, what sort of age are we talking? I'm not really wanting to be hanging out in clubs with 18-20 year olds, they are can get you in all sorts of trouble!!! laugh.gif
Jimbo
That's the kind of young I'm talking about, if not slightly younger. Having said that older people do go down there. It's better age wise on a Saturay, but in my view less fun - but then, I kinda like a room filled with 1,200 18 year old girls where a bottle of Becks is only 50c...but that's just me, something tells me you're looking for something a little more sophisticated. Which would probably mean Pacha or P1. I've not tried either, but will try to find time in November for both.

TT serious proper club night anyone? (I'm still waiting on that wife swapping idea by the way - the socket set is ready to go...)
Foxy
STEADY FREDDIE!...

Chill Winston, was only asking. I am using this at work and trying, not very successfully, to be discreet so not getting a chance to read all the threads.

Am now fully informed, so thanks for all helpful info I really appreciate it.
Jimbo
Wir stehen immer da für Sie.

Somebody (i.e. Malcolm) will now translate the above into correct German.
Foxy
Me is up for a clubbing night anytime!

Dont know about sophisticated - when the pennies are low anywhere that sells cheap booze is cool with me - It would take me back to those crazy hazy student daze...ahhh the memories, or lack of...
Malcolm Spudbury
Cheeky git, Jimbo.

Anyway, I don't know if your sentence was correct or not. I would've written "Wir sind immer für Sie da", but I don't know if that's correct either - you'd be better asking someone else, i.e. Koala. Or even one of the native German speakers that managed to sneak past Editor Bob...
koala
Jimbo - half way there - almost all the right words, but not quite in the right order.

"Wir stehen Ihnen gerne zur Verfügung." works rather nicely if you want to use the verb stehen...! Otherwise Malc got it spot on.
Jimbo
Yeah - I prefer your version Malcolm.

Koala - care to chip in with the definitive dead right version?
Malcolm Spudbury
Actually, since we're not a bunch of up-tight germans, I'd really have used the informal "für Dich", rather than the formal " für Sie".
Jimbo
Yeah, but Foxy is older than me so I thought I had better be polite.
Foxy
Older?!?!?!?
Malcolm Spudbury
Yeah, your year of birth is in your profile...
You're both younger than me, BTW.
randy

I must be getting old, becaue that just sounds nightmarish to me.
Foxy
Cunning ploy leaving your birth date off!! Got something to hide?

Still, I was always told youre only as old as the man you feel...
Jimbo
You must be getting old. It's bliss.

And Foxy, it's true - you're three years older than me I think.
Malcolm Spudbury
No, nothing to hide. The info just didn't get transferred from the previous forum software.
randy
Yeah, well - I've never been into that youth body-culture worship thing. Thousands of teenage girls just makes me thing of thousands of crappy gossipy conversations blink.gif

I like my women with character, not with mom's allowance money.
Jimbo
Character! That would have to be one charming mother f******g pig etc.

Yeah, true enough, but for a drunken snog character isn't so important.
randy
Hmm...which movie was that quote from, Jimbo? I know I've heard it, but can't place it at the moment.

I suppose you're right, but's it's not appealing for me :\
Jimbo
It's pulp fiction, when travolta and Jackson are discussing whether or not Jackson's character should eat bacon (the final scene in the cafe in fact).
sparty

Actually when you walk in there it looks like a nightmare, just because of the fact that it's weird to walk around completely sober, but it only takes about €2 to lose that feeling tongue.gif

The next big night out is in glocks, tonight, glockenspiel, mariensplatz. 7pm , early doors, nothing fancy, just a couple of wet 'uns. Head of later, head off upstream, dont wanna get too sloppy too early. never know where the Johny Ts are.
Jimbo
Well said.
alanbail
seriously tho., if you've just moved here, you'll quickly find munich is full of ra ra bars , full of students spending daddys money. I mean dont get me wrong most of 'em you'd love to knock the back out of but they're up their own ..., if you know what I mean. If you want a non-pretencious night out after a pub, goto Atomic cafe, easy to get into , not overpriced, good music, good beer / cocktails. cant go wrong.
Jimbo
Haven't tried Atomic, but keep meaning to... Maybe this weekend at some point. Anybody fancy it?
flogger
mr bail, is atomic the place to go then for jailbait??
pao
Atomic is nice, or at least was nice the one time we went, but it looks good from their schedule. Has anyone checked Funky Kitchen, or The Garden?
NoGo
Yes it is a tad young (atomic). If you look britpop/skanky you'll be loved.
rick
I am also new to this site, although I have been in Munich for two years now. Funny thing, I just found this site because I am trying to find ice in Munich for a party.

Anyway, throwing a Halloween party at my flat on Friday. It would be interesting to meet some other native english speakers (I think I only know 2). Although I do not know any of you, your welcome to come as long as you do not destroy the place. Lots to drink and good music, mostly university students will be there.

BTW: I would recommend Atomic Cafe, it is definitely my favorite place for going out.
egg
atomic is britpop on friday and i think alternative/indie on wednesday last i looked. Different other nights, including soul etc.

If you love britpop/blur/oasis/strokes etc etc then friday is yer night. wink.gif
sparty
rick, sounds good, if it fits into the Friday-night schedule...whereabout is the party?
MysteryMan
Good luck finding Funky Kitchen! It's hidden in the old Stadtwerk (or summat): me, a pair of mates and a taxi driver failed to find it one night. Saw it on TVM and it looked cool.
Have however been to Garden Club and it is also pretty cool. Pretty small, playing House and Deep Dub and the like, would only recommend if you are into the music.
Hellcat
Yeah, my husband and I had quite a time finding the Funky Kitchen. You have to basically go through a maze before you finally get to it, but once you're there it's worth it. Very nice place.
MysteryMan
Care on letting us in on the secret? :-)
rick
The Halloween Party is at Maximilianplatz 9, the same street as Nacht Cafe, if you know where that is. If you take the U-Bahn to Odeonsplatz you can walk there in about 3 minutes. Starts at 8:30 but I think most people will not show up until around 10. I have all of the drinks, so you do not need to bring anything, but if you want you can. Also, costumes are highly recommended.

Anyone know where one can buy ice here? I am having a hell of a time tracking this down! All of the germans I know say just buy ice trays and make it yourself, but I want a lot of ice.
rick
Also, I forgot, the last name on the door is "Billeci", but I will also put up a note at the door so you know which buzzer to ring.
Hellcat
Funky Kitchen is at Blumenstrasse 28, but we had a hard time following the street numbers. We just walked up and down the street until we finally found it. Once you find the number, you have to go through one building and outside to another, but that's all clearly marked. Good luck!
MysteryMan
Yeah I know but Blumenstraße 28 is a big mutha of a building with many many doors. We walked up and down the street and all facades of the building and found no trace. Maybe since then they have decided to become a bit more public.
pao
Yeah, once we found the right building it was fairly easy. There were people outside, and we just followed them in.

We will definitely be back there. On Fri Nov 21, Richard Dorfmeister (Tosca, Kruder &...) and Michael Reinboth (Compost Rec) will djing there, if you're into that.

We will be there then if not before.
MysteryMan
Finally another person on the board who shares my excellent taste in music. biggrin.gif (or have I forgotten one of my pseudonym again and ended up talking to myself? wink.gif ) Will most likely be at the Dorfmeister gig too, if I can find the damn place.
BTW, Thursday night is compost night in the garden club, should be roight ahp yaw alley.
