Oktoberfest meetup - first Sunday

8am Sunday 21.Sep.2008 @ Schottenhammel

Hutcho
I've got a few friends coming in for the fest on the first Sunday and thought I'd organise a bit of a meetup, if anyone else is keen. We've done this now for the last 3 years and it's always a good day out. 2005 we were in the Armbrustschutzenzelt, 2006 in the Hacker, last year in the Winzerer Fähndl so this year I'm suggesting we hit the Schottenhammel, which is definitely one of the best at the Wiesn.

Gotta get there early cause this is a popular tent. We met last year at 8am and that was fine. If you show up later you might not get in. If anyone has some tips as to where is free from reservations, post them here. I suspect however that most of the tables in the middle are not reserved.

Ok, so details once again.

Tent: Schottenhammel
Date: Sunday 21st September (first Sunday)
Time: 8am at the tent, or 7:50 directly outside Theresienwiese U-Bahn

Let me know if you're keen, should be a good one.

You're in luck! As you are going on a Sunday, none of the central tables are allowed to be reserved. (Boxes and galleries are still reserved).

From what time do they start serving beer?

I don't even remeber going to those tents the past 3 years!

Is it those guff Ausssie mates that drink like girls? Anyways, I'm in, I might let the wife go too.
Hutcho
Yes, it's those Aussie mates that drink like girls - Australian girls, that is - so harder than you do..

In my experience, they start serving beer as soon as they open the doors at around 9am.
JOB
Aussie girls! The wife will not be in attendance!
CaBe
I have visitors too that weekend, might come along (4 all together) thanks for organizing
arch
Sweet, is this an open invite??? If so, I'm in, and I might just invite a few friends along and tell them we have a confirmed plan. Whose contact info do we need?
PaulaJ
I'll be there.
chrislewis7
I love to meet up with you too.
I'll be there at 8am, look out the big English guy shouting 'Anyone from Toytown' and looking lost!
Matt T
Sounds like an excellent idea. Katrina and I will be along with a +1.
skean-dhu
Sounds like a good plan,I'll be there!
Hutcho
It's an open invite - the more the merrier..

Like I said, meet at the U-Bahn at 7:50am or at the tent at 8am. If anyone wants my mobile number, just PM me and I'll give it to you so you can call me on the day if you don't find us.
pjm
I should be there - assuming that the night at the Charlatans is not too mad
Hazza
I'll almost certainly be there +2 or 3
Wizadora
Booooo! For the first time since I got here I have to miss the first Sunday as I don't have 2 pennies to rub together. Have fun!

I have never lined up for a beer at 8.00 in the morning,
but Sunday seems like a good time to start...
Hutcho
Ok, looks like we have a good crowd.. I've had quite a few PM's about it too..

Everyone should really try to be there at 8am to grab a seat though. I know last year it wasn't a problem at all to get a place, but this year the weather looks like it'll be crap, which normally makes it tougher. Schottenhammel is probably the most popular tent too, so would be good if we could have a group right at the doors (maybe multiple doors) ready to run..
DJ_Jazzy_Guff
Only problem with that place is the guff beer. Apart from that it's quality.
PilotChris
On behalf of the Stuttgart Toytown delegation, we'd like to join you guys. Looks like a small group of us will be coming out for Sunday's festivities! More details (exact numbers) to follow, but a rough guesstimate is that there will be 5 of us!
pjm
How will we know each other?
Matt T
Large group of English speakers in Tracht?

But maybe something more definite would be good for those who don't know our faces...
pjm
Well, if you look anything like your picture on your profile, it shouldn't be too hard...
Matt T
Just like that. Only in Lederhosen.
NorthernThor
I'll be coming along +1. New in town and this is my first OktoberFest. See you all tomorrow bright and early.
MelbourneChick
Sounds like heaps of fun!! Will join you +1 - Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow morning
Ruthie
I plan to come, found a lunchtime dogwalker. What time do the doors open?
PaulaJ
9 - 9:30, I think. Looking forward to seeing you there!
MonksTown
I'm and getting ready, but going to another tent....
Ruthie
Did you intend to say you´re UP?
Ddajleng
sorry, is it 8 am or 8 pm?
Ddajleng
oh, I see now, no need to reply.
PaulaJ
I'm back home. My feet are killing me and I lost my voice somewhere along the way. Thanks Hutcho for organizing the event and Mehithabel for the brilliant ploy to secure the tables.
arch
Hey all, back now after 15 consecutive hours at the Wiesn! Had a great time! Thanks to Hutcho for organizing, we'll do it again sometime. Friday Sept 26, 4pm, anyone?
Panama
Thanks to Paula for dragging me out of home. Had a good time and my voice must be somewhere next to yours as well.
Damn I have to work... later.
pjm
oh, I see now, no need to reply.

Absolutely an awesome time... We finally left at 10:30pm, and there was barely anybody from the original group in sight. The Monday morning train ride back to Stuttgart was a little miserable, however.

Wonderful meeting you all -- hope to make it out to Munich for another meetup (with perhaps a mite less drinking) soon!
