Configuring Speedport W 500V for VOIP connection

Using a modem/router on Vodafone DSL

So I've got my new Vodafone DSL 16Mbps connection up and running (successfully) using an existing T-Com W 500V Router..I was surprised it works, but of course the speed only goes upto 8Mbps that the modem can handle...funny enough the upload is 1.1Mbps! Anyway it's all temporary as I wait for my Vodafone/Arcor WLAN modem to arrive in the mail.

Anyhoo...to the point!

I would like to activate my Vodafone Sprach Telefonanschluss (VOIP), but I am not sure how to go about it...

I was provided the Modem-Installationscode which I am supposed to punch in over the Analog phone to activate it, but I have not been successful with this.

My connection setup:

Telephone plugged into Analog phone TAE in Speedport 500V > Modem connected > T-DSL connection (RJ-45) running to T-DSL Splitter > Wall TAE via Amt cord.

When I lift the phone handset I have a beeping-sound like when your phone has restrictions and u can only make Emergency calls. I have entered the Modem-Installationscode but nothing happens!

I gather that if it is possible to make it work, then I have to play around with the configuration...and that's where I'm a bit lost!
In the Internetrufnummer (VOIP) settings, should I put the whole telephone number inc. area code as the Rufnummer?? And then put in my internet login details (Benutzername/Passwort)? What in the name of all that is holy do I put in 'Registrar'? I have entered the Modem-Installationscode in there, but it does nothing..

BTW The modem has a RJ-11 phone jack in it that says T-Net. I had this initially connected into the Splitter, but it seems to make no difference...

I am currently a bit flustered...any TT assistance would be wonderfully appreciated!! blink.gif

You can't do it. You don't have the VoIP login data from Vodafone needed to set up SIP access for your (presumably VoIP-only) phone service. The "Modem-Installationscode" is specific to the hardware you will receive from Vodafone. Just for the record, you are actually using Arcor. Vodafone simply repackage their service.

ah yeah i knew about vodafone repackaging arcor's service, which was one of the reasons i opted for em (as i hear arcor are reliable) in the first place. when i got my first modem, the EasyBox A400, it was an arcor package with a vodafone sticker on it:P.

but yeah thanks for clearin that up, guess i'll have to wait for the other modem to arrive

Arcor? Reliable? Humm...
deep_schismic
well i know people who have had arcor connections for years and have been overall satisfied with it..also their tech people seem to know their job (and this was from personal experience). but hey, with any ISP in germany i think you'll find as many people who love ISP as those who detest it. what would've been ur personal thumbs up, out of curiousity?

Arcor are fine until:
a) they go wrong
b) you need customer service
c) you want to cancel

The best of a bad lot are Telekom, but only as they actually own the lines into your home. You'll even need them if there is a cabling problem with your Arcor/Vodafone service, which can delay many service callouts.

things have gone fairly smoothly...i was shocked that the Telekom guy showed up today (as appointed) to test the connection and the cabling in the building. *knocks on wood*
