What goes through the mind of a woman, who married her high school sweetheart, has already 4 kids with him, and wants with 43 another child. This 5th child now suffers from down-syndrome. I question her rationale and her mental fitness for such a powerful position.

Should the Republicans win, what other crazy decisions should we be afraid of?

The theme of this string is: "Comments about her state of mind".

I just got a post removed from here due to "Bad formatting, excess quoting, lame/wrong comments"

I found the question baffling. We are given a list of "misdemeanors" that this person "committed" and asked:
"Should the Republicans win, what other crazy decisions should we be afraid of?"

I had not seen a "crazy decision" mentioned.

I do/did not find it "crazy" that she has/d been with the same guy since her teens - says a lot about her staying power, though.

Nowadays millions are having babies at the age of 43.

If the question was just asked about fearing the Republicans winning - then fine.

However asking about someone's "frame of mind" based on the above-mentioned "sins", is difficult to answer.

So I guess if you can't then don't, or else have your post removed.

Being married 1 time for a long time is questionable?

Having lots of kids is questionable?

Would we ask a man the same questions about his state of mind?

I thought this is what women were yelling about for years, the freedom to have important careers, equal pay and opportunities, motherhood, to have it all with out being bashed or was I totally confused???

And now when it looks like they have it...some question her mental fitness? But I suppose if she was a Democrat...it would all be admirable?

Anyone - male or female - with a special needs child (make that two, I was forgetting about Bristol) should re-think their priorities regarding family obligations or professional career.
MrNosey
Me thinks she's horny and a real vote-winner. If the Republicans produce a photo of her in a red white and blue bikini clutching an M16 locked and loaded they're gonna take every state in the union by a landslide.

Agreed. So Palin has, in fact, made an excellent choice.

She is only campaigning to be a spare nominal figurehead that goes around occaisionally shaking peoples hands and reading out something pre-prepared. Tis the people behind the scenes that do the real work.

Tis only a part-time job after all.

Really? I heard that after Palin was nominated, the percentage of former Clinton supporters switching to Obama went up sharply from 70% to 81%. You have to ask yourself whether an anti-gay, anti-green, fundamentallist who opposes all abortion, wants creationism taught in schools and believes in relaxing gun laws will appeal to independent voters rather than the rock solid religious right which were already repub anyway.

I believe we should change the topic to what kind of female would be acceptable.

Single?
Married more than once, twice?
No kids? or no more than 2 or 3?
No disabled children?
Attractive or not?
Military service or not?

I'm just amazed at the double standards some people have posted here when it comes to successful women who have families compared to men.

Then she still has a part-time job. And seeing as mental impairment is no bar to office, she won't have to think that much either.

Apparently there is not alot of worry over her "frame of mind" according to Rasmussen's Polling.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_con...an_obama_mccain

"The new data also shows significant increases in the number who say McCain made the right choice and the number who say Palin is ready to be President. Generally, John McCain’s choice of Palin earns slightly better reviews than Barack Obama’s choice of Joe Biden.

Perhaps most stunning is the fact that Palin’s favorable ratings are now a point higher than either man at the top of the Presidential tickets this year. As of Friday morning, Obama and McCain are each viewed favorably by 57% of voters. Biden is viewed favorably by 48%. "

I can't wait for the Palin - Biden debate - this lady is gonna take this guy apart right before our eyes in front of millions of TV watchers. Biden has everything to lose and he will be shaking in his boots.
This woman eats guys like Biden for breakfast with her moose meat sandwiches. The Democrat wimp will probably piss himself on stage.
Democrats will dip 20 points after this debate - when is it?

She has a very annoying voice. She sounds more like a chainsaw than most 2-stroke powered wood cutting chain implements I've ever heard.

Edit: And that's before you get into the words she sprouts.

Palin isn't crazy, she's just rabidly ambitious.

Her values are another thing altogether.

Party membership doesn't equal a secure base. A full ten percent of registered dems didn't come out and vote for Kerry. He could have used them in Ohio. And the republican base in this election, wasn't excited about the McCain candidacy. Now it seems they are.

Clinton supporters, who have finally come around to Obama are not generally 'independent voters' are they? I was under the impression that they are democrats. A slide towards Obama from Hillary supporters isn't an indication of what the independent voter is thinking. Palin is for (more or less) all of the things you said. But keep in mind that in trying to win the middle vote (which would not be any voter already declared for Obama or Hillary) it's going to be how she says it. And it seems like the middle kind of likes how she says it. About a third of polls show them neck and neck, with the other two thirds showing either candidate up by a few points but only within the margin of error. It's a close race. But considering how far ahead Obama was and in theory should be, that says alot about what the middle is thinking right now. But we are only at the begining of the sprint. It could be very close.

Palin gives more than enough ground to attack on a political front that one shouldn't have to resort to attacking her family and personal life.

I'm all for leaving her family out of it, but she's the one that boasted about her 'wonderful' family and used them as props.

Quote from a friend of mine with a brother in his 30s that has cerebral palsy:

QUOTE
The fact that she has a handicapped kid and is taking on such a huge responsibility and having the gaul to say she will be an advocate for families with handicapped children is despicable.

absolutely! It should be here repugnant views that people object to and her paucity of experience and depth of vision.

Disappointing to see so many people focusing instead on whether she is ciute, a good mother etc etc. I rather dounbt many politicians who are fathers would have to go through such guff.

finally something that proves her terrible state of mind...a parent with a handicapped child saying they would be an advocate for other parents with handicapped children. She obviously is totally whacked, what was she thinking to say that??? (It's not as if the VPs don't advocate for MANY different causes while in office.)

Surely we were missing part of the logic???
moctoj2
Isn't the missing logic in your point of view is that parents of handicapped children (unless they are attention whores) don't outsource care and parenting to the hired help. Those parents believe in FAMILY FIRST and as her party spouts - take care of their own.

The picking of Palin was to secure places like Ohio. In fact, the exact opposite has happened. The people of Ohio have seen the stunt for what it is and Ohio is now leaning towards Obama. Actually, several states have swung toward Obama post Convention and post Palin.

Sarah Palin believes that "victims of rape should be forced to bear their rapist's child".

Palin, a member of the anti-choice group Feminists for Life, said during her campaign for governor that she is opposed to abortion, even in cases of rape or incest. I think its a great shame that you are placing such a great HANDICAP label on someone with downs syndrome. Surely a parent should just do what they think is best for their child, if that involves getting outside help - just as many on TT seem to do - then whats the problem.

I don't see the great problem with being anti-abortion, I may not agree with it entirely and the choice should be there, but I can see why someone would have such a view (nothing to do with religion) and don't see what the problem is??
lilplatinum
I would imagine the problem people have with it involves the people with anti-abortion views wanting to make it illegal for the people without anti-abortion views to exercise their choice to scramble a fetus..

/If you meet my wife you will quickly realize that I am already in hell.

Just because Palin has these views on abortion it doesn't mean the laws will be changed when she gets in office. I respect anyone that has a respect for life and her with her handicapped baby in her arms on stage showed to me that she is a decent human being and not just one of these lying "No I did not have sex with that woman" cheese dick lawyer Democrat types.

Although I do not agree with her as regards abortion in this particular case, I think it is fair to say she is opposed to abortion in this case if one wants to properly represent her views. Of course a person with a leadership position in a Democratic Party organization is most unlikely to do such a thing.
We have seen umpteen Catholic Democrats, e.g., John Kerry and Joe Biden, state a personal opposition to abortion, yet no one flips out about their beliefs. Even if a politician would want to impose their beliefs on abortion on the country without majority support (never mind they would not have the political capital to do so) they would be constrained by civil society and our system of checks and balances.

What I find weird (and a little worrying) is that someone who could quite possibly have their finger on the Nuclear button doesn't believe in evolution.

Then I looked on Wikipedia and found out that 45% of yanks believe that humans were created by God in their present form within the last 10,000 years.

Maybe our cousins cross the pond will get the (vice)leader they deserve!!
