Through an English summer camp I've managed to find myself a small job teaching English for a few hours a week to one 8 year old child. The mother wants to know how much I'll be charging per hour but I have no idea what a good rate is. I have experience in children's camps but have never done one-on-one teaching. The mother knows this but as I met her through a camp and have already taught her son, she is happy to have me despite this. She also said she would cover any transport costs to her house.

So how much do you think I should be charging per hour?

Cheers

a very reasonable amount is 20/hour, especially if you know her. if you had more experience and even if you taught in a school where you had lots of books/resources, then id say 25-30. this is just for the teaching, mind you. the traveling expense would be on top of that. oh, and a teaching hour is typically 45 minutes.

She can get Nachhilfe for around 9 Eur per hour. You need to be clear about your market.
