Space centers or rocket museums for children

Is there one in Germany, and if so, where?

mlovett
Hi, my son keeps asking me where the "rocket museum" is in Germany... he loved the Chabot Space and Science Center (VERY kid friendly, even for toddlers) back home in CA. Anyone know? If they have a dome style theater too, an extra plus. Even if you know of one not near Hamburg, I'd still like to hear, thanks!

The Deutsches Museum in Munich has a Soyuz capsule on display, along with a mock-up of an Apollo lunar landscape and lots of replica satellites and rockets. All pretty cool.

i know it's not in germany, but there is or was a Mir Space station near the Riesendrad in Vienna. Also, the are some V1 & V2 rockets at Peenemunde, plus a rather impressive east german submarine

There is a submarine closer to home: U995 at Laboe, near Kiel...

A long journey (near Stuttgart) is: Sinsheim Auto & Technik Museum

thanks folks, this is a good start. It's odd to me that this is not more popular in Germany... they are all over the United States! I thought all Germans liked high tech stuff!?

And I am having a hard time here with the "child friendly" aspect (lack thereof)... I took my son to the Railroad Museum in HH -- VERY cool, but the adults VERY much thought it was for them and were constantly pushing my son out of the way. I was appalled!

Full-sized? (where is it?) or do you mean Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg which is an enormous model railway (or more than that...)?

If he wants to watch aeroplanes go to a nearby small airfield on a sunny weekend...

And here's one U-Boat at Hamburg.

It's a fair way north of Stuttgart, closer to Heidelberg, still a long way from Hamburg I'll admit. I've driven past this place loads of times and never stopped, but it looks pretty impressive and I know people who have been and they've all said it's great. Those pictures on the Wiki page don't do it justice at all.

The Universum Bremen is also a nice science/space center. My kids have both been there on school field trips and they enjoyed it.

So after just 30 minutes and three posts telling you where there are things here, you've decided that they are not popular, amazing.

Don't forget the "Technikmuseuum Speyer" http://www.museumspeyer.de/museum_speyer_deutsch.html (sorry, English page under construction)
They show the Russian Spaceshuttle "Buran".
+imax "Mission Moon"
+exhibition "Apollo and Beyond"

Speyer is very close to Sinsheim. (and a nice town to visit)

I find it odd that there isn't one in the oh so wonderful city of Hamburg. thanks for thinking I'm amazing -- much appreciated.

Thanks everyone! I guess I need to plan some road trips...
