TT Weekend Trips away from Munich

once-a-month in a different platz.

Yes, OK, I know the girls night/boys night out has just begun, but also I must remind all of the TT members that LIFE IS SHORT. Who knows how long we'll be able to overindulge in lifes treasures.

How about we start a one weekend a month trip to a city. Prague, Amsterdam, Zurich. It would be great. Starting after Christmas. Just tossing this out there for opinions.
MadAxeMurderer
That is a mighty idea.

As long as each time somebody volunteers to organise, does organise, and has a thick skin, because never mind how well you do it, somebody will criticise. If only to say that in managing not to fuck up with hotel reservations you removed the adventure.
Jimbo
This is true. I would love to go, but no way would I organise it.
beans
I'll organize it through January 31.

Only rules: MAJORITY RULES and I must be very objective about times, so forth. I promise I will give you all my best!
SparkaHck
I vote for Prague, unless sparty can get discounts in Amsterdam.
beans
OK, we'll do a poll.

Official poll to come, first:

Amsterdam
Hamburg
Berlin
Prague
Zurich

Any other options?
sparty
I'm very interested in Prague...I know my way around in Amsterdam, so that's not a very appropriate destination for me to see how it looks like over there.
And I thought there were also plans for a couple-of-days trip for skiing/boarding??
Jimbo
This regular event thing is starting to take shape...any takers on a once a week TT wife swapping party? I don't have a wife, or even a girlfriend, but I can swap a nice socket set for your wife/bird if ur interested...
beans
Oh jimbo, your doing that thing again, aren't you?
randy

who'd a thunk it? wink.gif
Hazza
hmmm...

A socket set for my bird - Yeah, ok. Sounds like a fair swap!!
Malcolm Spudbury
What's all this "organise" and "book hotels" nonsense?

All you need to plan for is buying the train tickets and getting to the station on time. Then you just find a place to stay when you get there.

Of course, it's worth remembering to pack a warm sleeping bag in case you end up having to crash out in a doorway. But that just adds to the adventure, doesn't it?
Jimbo
Hazza - I'm free tonight mate. The socket set needs some oiling up before use, but then maybe so does your...nah, I'll stop there. biggrin.gif

Strikes me that the organiser could get stung for cash on this one - how about a poll and a date, and ppl arrange their own hotels and then just meet in Prague/the Dam/Hamburg etc?

Oh, and Randy - don't worry mate, I have plenty of offers cool.gif
beans
Well, I thought if it was a small group going we could rent a car, but you might be right Malc. However, I think it is good to get a hotel booked before. I don't like having to do that once I get to a place.

Did I spell organize wrong? You got what I meant anyway.
bex
warning on renting a car to go into eastern europe - prague etc

you will not be able to rent a car if you intend to take it into eastern europe. Or if they will let you then you will have to pay an extravagent amount in extra insurance.

Car crime is rife over there. Then again, if there are enough of you going it might work out cheaper to rent a car and pay the insurances and hotel garage parking than going by train. And dont think you can get away with not telling the car hire company and just going, they wont let you over the boarder in a rental car unless you have written proof of permission and insurance from the hire company..

...guess what industry I work in!...
Malcolm Spudbury
I wasn't having a go at your spelling, Beans. To be honest, I hadn't even noticed that you'd spelled "organise" wrong smile.gif

I just think if you start getting too stressed about organising and paying for everything in advance it takes something away from the fun of it. At least that's how it is for me - can't speak for the rest of you...
MadAxeMurderer
Malcolm, Have you ever tried turning up in Amsterdam for a weekend and getting a place to stay. I have with girlfriend, and that was almost a disaster. She had however conned the Airport accomidation booking into telling her that the Holiday Inn 6 km out had space and we stayed there after searching 1.5 hours in the centre

Even if its an easier city, if everybody wants to stay together its best to have the hotel arranged in advance.

Jimbo, I've got a niced stuffed parrot I'll exchange for your socket set.
marka
Another location... Czesky Krumlov (yes it does exist). Just over the border in Czech Rep. Beautiful city, some excellent bars/restaurants, cheap beer, cheap shopping, great hotels (also not expensive) and only a 4 hour drive.
Malcolm Spudbury
No, not in Amsterdam, but I've done it in a few other places...

Fair point though.
sparty
@marka
like Ibiza but then no beach, everything is cheap and during the day the only thing that keep you busy is the hangover?
marka
I wouldnt fancy driving to Ibiza :-)
beans
No problem with the organizing, Malc. But, I will put a poll up for bids on the first trip (sounds like Prague now, not trying to taint the poll). Also, let's just wait and find out who's really interested and get together and talk. Thanks, Bex, for the car info. I forgot about that, she's right.
Elfenstar
don't forget vienna, graz and venice.
beans
Venice is way, way too expensive. Plus, that's a city for love. I think the TT crew needs to get out of town and paint that new town red. Or blue, if thats our color.

OK, maybe after its all set up, Venice. I just thought for the first time around something much less romantic. We'll see.
beans
Vienna, yes.
Malcolm Spudbury
When I went to Venice I thought it was horrible. Almost put me off going to Italy again...
Keydeck
Am going Vienna on the weekend of December 5th for the Christmas markets and some strategic drinking.

Might drive over, but that has yet to be decided. So if anyone's around that weekend I know the city very well and could point a few directions. Lived there for a year before coming here.
parnell
Llubjana rocks , just came back from there recently ,gorgeous place , fantastic scenery , cheaper than a divorcee in the Shamrock at 4am and dead on people. Only 4 hours drive at a good clip.
I love beans!
Sounds nice, Parnell...

Again, I am the searcher for ideas and comments...

This is a great idea, once a month, a group out, but we have to let this sink in with everyone, have some comments in person and then post what exactly is going on.

My thoughts are...

Can we please go somewhere for a weekend!
Jimbo
Great idea and all that, but I just don't think it's workable over the forum. Far too much organising and messing about to be done...
parnell
Nah , its doable , just get some folks to commit some money one week in advance , book the cars and accommodation with the dough and bet feck all pull out. Easy!
Editor Bob
Can't give too much away at this stage. But since long before this thread was even started there have been plans formulating for a TT weekend adventure. This will be in combination with the MDC of course - so that the number of participants will make it a complete blast. It won't happen till around April of 2004 though. So if you can't wait that long, by all means organise something yourselves in the meantime.

But make no mistake, the TT weekend adventure will be a weekend you'll never forget. More details next year...
Elfenstar
no fair bob, teasing us like that. obviously we won`t wait for you to get your ass in gear, but we`ll wait patiently nevertheless.
Malcolm Spudbury
For booking a weekend away check out some of the rail/hotel deals that they do at the DE-Tour office (I think that's what it's called) at Ostbahnhof (there's probably one at Hbf too).

I got a weekend in Prague - friday night on the overnight train, sat. and sun. nights in a 3-star hotel, monday night back to Muc. on the overnighter - booked 10 days in advance for 140 Euros per person. And it would have been even cheaper if I'd reserved seats instead of beds on the overnight train.
Katrina
Hiya,
if I go away for the weekend, it is with my man. He works silly hours all week so it is our chance to see each other so I probably won't be on for weekends away.
Llubjana is really worth a visit as is the Plattensee (where I went to a wedding in October, a litre of wine in a restaurant costs 4€ so will probably suit you lot wink.gif ).
Make sure that you know where you are going in the Czech Republic, I once ended up in Cheb and was scared silly the whole time *shudder*.

fusilli
I see that an idea I came up with recently has already been discussed. Therefore I will add on to this one instead of making a new one. I was discussing the idea of going to Prague at some events for some time in February or March and want to know who wants to come along. I was recently in Prague and found a descent hotel. 3star apartment hotel also with underground garage parking if we decide to drive there. Only cost about 35 a night each for three people. Depending on hom many people come along, but we can throw three in an aparment and jsut get as many apartments as we need. Incidentally the hotel is right in the city center about 1 minute walk from the pedestrian walking zone where all the fun goes on. Before I went I was given advice as to where to go during the day and at night from a friend who lived there for a year. I had a great time and am thinking of going again.

Anyone interested?
DrivinWest
OI! I am, and I believe that you fusilli should take the bull by the horns for this 1st adventure smile.gif

I nominate you as Prague-trip #1 social chair. Any 2nd nomiations?
