Claiming BAföG for studying outside of Germany

Does anyone have any experience of applying for this (it's a government grant/loan to help with study costs) for study outside Germany?

I'm looking into it for my daughter...

BAfoeG explained in English including info on studying abroad. Is that what you were looking for, or do you have specific questions not answered there?

Thanks to both of you for the links. I've already been there and got a lot of info.

I'm hoping to find someone who has been through this so I can fire a few questions as they arise.

From what I can see she/we would need to fill out Formblatt 1 and from that they (BAFOG) would be able to determine if and how much she would be entitled to. Do you know if this is the case?

I've used to online calculator to see what she may be entitled to and it looks very good, so good in fact that I'm sceptical.

Oh great, well thanks for telling us that in your first post so that we didn't have to waste our time. It sounded like you hadn't read any websites, otherwise it makes sense to include them so that a) what happened won't happen, and b) it's helps others who are interested find the information.

Sent an email to BAFOG today and got the following reply:

"Sehr geehrter Herr,

bitte füllen Sie alle erforderlichen Formblätter aus und senden Sie sie uns mit den notwendigen Anlagen versehen im Original per Post zu.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen
Im Auftrag"

So the answer to my questions was to fill out all the forms and send them as originals per post... Not quite what I wanted but will do it and see what happens.
