Where to buy Oktoberfest party supplies in Munich

Plates, cups, banners, that kind of stuff

Hey gang-

New member and need some local knowledge! I'll be working a few days in Munich next month and want to stock up on Oktoberfest party supplies while I'm there. I'm planning an Oktoberfest party back home in the states, and can't find anybody local with anything- I checked all the big party stores and nada. I found a few mail-order places, but they charge way too much with limited selection. Basically anything with the Bavarian blue check works for me! Plates, cups, banners, you name it!

Anyhow, I'll be staying near the Rosenheimer Platz, so hopefully looking for something nearby there or the MarienPlatz. I'm very familiar with the MUC U-bahn though, so I'll travel for a deal!

Might the Kaufhof near the Marienplatz have anything?

Vielen Dank!

most larger grocery stores and department stores carry table clothes, glasses, plates in the blue and white checked pattern. Right at Rosenheimerpl is a large store called Hit in a small mall and even a DM drugmarkt that both carry these things.

Thanks Carm- that was fast!

Yes I know that very Hit. I was there a few weeks ago, but maybe they didn't have Oktoberfest things out yet. I guess I should have specified I'm looking for paper plates, plastic cups, etc. as opposed to the real thing. Gotta haul about 100 each of 'em on the plane!

Thanks again!

Kupe, if you have time this weekend we can hook up and go to Metro together (you have to be a member to get in), they have all sorts of white&blue stuff such as plates, napkins, possibly cups and rolls of paper table cloths etc. PM me if you're interested.

EDIT: And cool Bavarian flags with the lions and coat of arms!

All year round, V-Markt in Balanstrasse carries Bavarian-themed napkins, tablecloths, and other themed paper/plastic tableware, as well as boxes of cheap beer glasses, and cheap Steinkruege. Look in the basement.

Perhaps you would be better off going to SpecSavers instead?

OMG thank you everyone! Gacch too many choices!

Sarabyrd: thank you however I won't arrive MUC until the following week!

V-Markt sounds interesting- I think I even rented an Avis car near there once- near the intersection of Balanstrasse and St. Martinstrasse? On the other hand, the Hit is right near my hotel...Is it worth the time to make the trip to V-Markt over Hit?

(Our problem is that on the one day I have to shop for party supplies, my wife and I will also be shopping for Lederhosen and Dirndls! Of course that is for another thread!)

Ah, that's where you're lucky: Metro is open until 9pm! So after running around all day trying on Dirndln and Lederhosen we can pop into Metro while others are fuming in front of closed shop doors.

Yes, you've got the V-Markt location right. It's maybe a ten-minute walk from Hit.

V-Markt also carries inexpensive Dirndls and Landhausmode, including shoes and other accessories, on the first floor (one up from the ground floor.) I find their selection for women to be much better than for men. If you buy clothing at V-Markt, you have to pay for it separately from other stuff at the "Textilien" counter upstairs.

I always recommend V-Markt for visitors if you're in the neighborhood anyway. They've got an excellent chocolates section (for gifts, etc.) and wine/liquor section, both on the ground floor.

(There used to be a seasonal Tracht shop in Rosenheimerstrasse right across from the Hilton. Would be open now, if it's still in business.)

Thanks Cinzia! So would I be wasting my time to look for Lederhosen there? We had planned to spend some time at "Wies'n Tracht & Mehr Original Steindl" along the Tal between Isartor and Marienplatz. They had a great selection of Lederhosen, though by the price they seemed quite proud of them! Do you think I would find Tracht as nice maybe at Kaufhof or elsewhere? (Gacch sorry for the thread creep!)

Also did I read somewhere in another thread that V-Markt does not take credit cards or something like that? Just so I'm prepared.

Wiesn Tracht & Mehr is worth its money and they tend to throw in freebies if you go the whole hog (Lederhosn, shirt(s), socks). My brother got three free kerchefs and a second pair of socks.

Next weekend, what I had meant to say, is not this weekend, as in the coming one, but the one after, meaning the first weekend in September.

If not for Kommentarlos my life would be missing something.

Hey gang-

Just wanted to thank you all again and say the shopping was a complete success! We found everything we needed at V-Markt. And had that failed, Sarabyrd (bless her!) had offered to go to Metro with our shopping list! You guys are too much! And if by some crazy chance any Toytowners are in Atlanta on October 11, send me a PM and I'll give you directions to the "Wiesn on the Chattahoochee" party that we've been shopping for!

PS- Wiesn Tracht and Mehr was a blast as well! They fed us champagne until we spent every Euro we had!! (Those of you at TTT last night saw the results!)
