hi,
i have applied for a german business visa. the problem here is the lamination cover on the first page of my
passport has peeled off and the immigration service group from my company has stapled the cover to the passport
and i am kind of anxious that the consulate guys might reject the application thinking that its
a dummy passport. since this is the first time i am applying for a visa, i do not know many things
about the process.however, i already have a UK business visa stamped. will this effect my application???
any information on this querry would be greatly appreciated.

I've had a passport confiscated and destroyed because it was deemed to be damaged (went through the wash years earlier, and all was fine until one day a lady at the consulate was having a bad day and decided to make mine worse). Not much you can do once they're holding your passport and they're telling you it's against the law to return it.
It can be a real bummer if the timing's bad. I'd try to get new one.

Get a new one. The consulate may accept your Passport, but you can have issues with immigration.

on my way to munich last time i was seated next to an american who apparently lived here... though when he was going through customs and as his passport was in such poor condition, he was held at the airport, until he could call someone who could prove(or bring docs) that he lived here. i saw the PP before we deboarded, and he said that he always got shit for such a PP that was in such condition, but didnt think it would be a problem... needless to say even after waiting almost 45 min for my baggage i still didnt see him come through...
go to your consulate/embassy and get it renewed/replaced!!!
its not worth the hassle!!!

I agree that the best thing is to get a new passport. I did when I had changed so much from my picture that I kept getting quizzed!
I can only speak for the UK but there was almost no cash hit for doing so. The new passport covered bother the duration left on the old one (minus three months) plus the usual duration for the new one. So the only "net cash loss" was the cost of three months - worth it for making my life easier.
