I did a parachute jump 8 years ago and loved every minute of it(About 4 minutes in total!!). Really gutted me & my mate never did any more on the day.
Speaking to
TT's resident basejumper and just reading Editor Bob's
article on the front page has got me wanting to do this again!
Exit GmbH, prices look at 300€ for one straight jump and up to 1500€ to do a full week and progress up to Skydiving.
Tandem Jumps are also available at around 235€.
Personally I want to do this again, on my first jump when exiting the plane I was supposed to shout the count 'one-one thousand, two-one thousand, three-one thousand - Check Canopy' instead for some strange reason, the only words I could scream was 'Oh Shit!!'
So in the words of a proposed event -
Who's up for it?I promise you will not be disappointed.

would love too but i've still got an enlarged spleen from an infection and my doctor has banned such things, but hey i'd love to watch you screaming!

Dec 10 2004, 1:29 pm
I heard that Exit has often problems with their bookings 'cos they aren't based on one particular drop-zone. Here are two which are cheaper and it's the drop-zone running things.
skydive colibri in Ampfing, 60 km east of munich
fsc-colibri.de, 195 Euro on weekends (tuesday, wed. thursday 185 Euro) , season starts at the end of March.
skydive nuggets in Leutkirch, 90 km west of munich
skydive-nuggets.de, 210 on weekends, 190 during the week, open from April to October
Also if you go to Ampfing let me know 'cos Andrea, my bird, is a member there and can get another 5-10 euros knocked off...
hope this helps

Dec 10 2004, 1:34 pm
I would def be up for this !

Dec 10 2004, 1:36 pm
@Izabella - Funnily enough a drunk DrivinWest said he'd do that a few months back, I asked him again today, his response was 'HELLS YEAH DUDE!'
I'd go with either as well, in fact, I'd do both.

Hiya
If you fancy paragliding and don't mind it being further away, contact this lot.I used to work with Allen Swindells who is the co-founder of The Last Resort (UK) - he's a nice bloke from near Manchester, so if you get in touch say hello from me!

I really want to do this to, would there be any chance of getting the price down if we had enough people though?

Dec 10 2004, 2:26 pm
i would be interested in doing a course so that I could jump anytime I wanted in the future.
Probably would be cheaper for a group to fly to Britain and do a course there and then we could jump back in germany later on.
3 Lions
Dec 10 2004, 2:39 pm
@Scots Geeza - I am pretty sure once you complete your first jump, you then get a membership in whatever Parachuting association there is here, this then enables you to go and jump at your leisure, but with supervision still, you need to complete a set number of 'Static Line' jumps, then progress to a free jump where you pull the cord yourself and then finally up to skydiving level when you have completed enough clean jumps (Usually 20+).

Dec 10 2004, 2:41 pm
this sounds soo cool, if i can bungee i can do this, is there any "group" rate?
petal
Dec 10 2004, 3:04 pm
Well, as you know, I have done a couple of static line jumps. Would love to have another go, but depends when. My finances are not too healthy at the mo as need to fly to various places for job hunting and then endure all the costs associated with moving to another country.
Would also be interested in paragliding, but do you need to know how to ski?
Tom17
Dec 10 2004, 3:06 pm
paragliding has nothing to do with skiing

If you can run, and understand that german guy shouting at you in german about how to paraglide.. then you are set

I went on a paragliding course a few years back. English was promised but was not available in the end.. ruined it. Along with the weather...

I'd love to do a few jumps again...but 200€ is pretty damn steep. It's so much cheaper in Canada.
Eric the Hamster
Dec 10 2004, 3:19 pm
would also really like to do this but would need to re-arrange the finances a bit so a little notice would be needed. When would you be thinking of doing this?

Dec 10 2004, 3:24 pm
Given how cold it is and how close to Christmas, we are looking at next year at some point. Dunno Feb/March time say? Whatever, whenever. Must say I am tempted to pay the 1500€ and do the full week.
petal
Dec 10 2004, 3:27 pm
Tom 17 - yeah I didn't think that paragliding had anything to do with skiing, but Izabella mentioned it was off the alps. The pictures on the website also showed lots of snow. Well, you gotta land somehow
Tom17
Dec 10 2004, 3:28 pm
ahhhh gotya

I would love to pay the 1500 but its simply just too much :-( If anything cheaper comes up I would be VERY interested.
Is it really that much cheaper in the UK/Canada?
3 Lions
Dec 10 2004, 3:32 pm
I paid 180€ in the UK for my training & jump. Then jumps after this cost 35€. The initial outlay is always going to be steep, the jumps afterwards dont cost as much.

You guys should seriously look for a discount if more than even 3 of you are interested. That's a helluva lot of money to lay out, and I'm sure every school would be interested in having a big bunch join at once. Having said that, they can then probably do it in English if you get a big enough group together.
I've jumped out of a plane once, that's enough. No need to do it again.

I'm totally up for this, as mentioned to chewy I plan to do it for my 30th in May by the latest.

I used to work with a girl who worked there at weekends, she was the female freefall skidiving champion (and very cute, for you lads). She got me a discount for my flatmate's present last year, so I'm sure we can get her to wangle us a group discount

Hi TTers,
If 3 lions is agreeable, he can master the logistics of people who want to do these air sports and I would be able and happy to assist in these possibilities:
Sailplane observer flights;
Ballooning observer flights;
Skydiving Tandem or instructional;
Paragliding tandem or instructional;
Vertical wind tunnel human flight.
I have been active in all these disciplines, although some in the observer mode (sailplane and ballooning).
I definitely know the professional people and places for this. Saving a few euros is not always a good option if your life is at stake, I would prefer to send you to the best I can.
take care,
space

So I know Chewy wanted to do this for her 21st (June), and I am determined to do it for my birthday, so who's up for it? I propose the Calbri school at Ampfing, but am open to better suggestions. Want to do a tandem jump, no time for a week's course at the mo

May 17 2005, 1:26 pm
Done tandem jumps twice and it was the most amazing thing in the world. I used to be a bit scared of heights, then I went skydiving and have never had a problem since. I'd definitely join you guys to watch, but students budget won't really allow for 3 jumps during the college years

. After college, however, I'm definitely getting certified!
P.S. Space: Do you happen to use any Strong Enterprises equipment? I've worked with them/Ted Strong (inventor of the tandom harness).

Apparantly people bounce quite high when their chutes don't open. Dummies just seem to splat, but we are supposed to become quite bouncy.

Similar story of a young lady messing round with some guys after being drunk in UCD on a construction site. Died in agony.
EDIT @ mightyp
Yeh ... apparently quite a few people have died of suffocation as a result of landing in a soft marsh.

Oh it is such good fun! I was scared of the instructor so when he said jump I just did it because I couldn't face him shouting at me if i didn't! The guy who went before me landed in a tree though which was highly amusing ;-)

Hi All~ I've jumped tandem once before (many moons ago) loved it!
I'd be very psyched to get into paragliding as a sport. If people are interested and doing it, please include me!! I think it would be awesome to explore the alps while floating over them...mmmmm...
I'm not as interested in skydiving, only because i can't imagine doing it as a sport. I like when I am only dependent on me getting up there not a plane...besides I hate small airplanes they scare the dickens out of me...i'd much rather jump out of one than ride in one...that said, i want to spend my money learning how to paraglide. Takers?

Woudl love to take up paragliding too.. But the same problem exists... Who says you dont need money to have fun.. grrrr

If anyone wants them, I have 2 coupons each for 50 euros off training and 10 euros off a tandem jump at the
Fallschirm-Sport-Club Muenchen. I haven't been before so I can't answer any questions & won't be going myself.

Again, it depends on the cost and date, but I'll get saving.
Really looking forward to that!
