Life in the town of Torgelow

Info and opinions on living there

corinne
Does anyone know what Torgelow is like to live? Am I even in the right section?

Assuming you mean Torgelow-am-See near Waren (Müritz), then I think "town" might be overstating the case a little. Waren is a nice town though (a nice redeveloped harbour area), and the surrounding area of the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte is very nice (particularly if you're into canoeing or walking in the forests). I suspect that Torgelow might be somewhat quiet, and that reasonable German skills will probably be required to survive and thrive. The ex-pat community is probably also rather small.

You are right that it is in M-V, and so you posted in the right place here!

Thank you for the info, well that has not helped...in a nice way.

My husband had been given three places he could move to next year, Torgelow (and I can only guess it is the one you said as I have no more information to go on), Fritzlar and Amberg. We could not get three places any more spread across Germany if we tried. We know nothing about any of the places as the last and only time I lived in Germany it was in NWR.

To make it a little easier I had put Torgelow in place three for no reason other than the fact it is the furthest away (we are in Portugal at the moment) but now I have seen Waren and now know about the harbour area, I am rather smitten with the place. Quite is fine for us and lots of forests are great when we have two big dogs to walk. Ok, I admit my German is pants but as my husband is German we should be able to get by, although, I imagine the dialect is something quite different up there.

The "real" Torgelow has a population of approx. 10,000 and is not far (40 km) from Szczecin/Stettin ... the largest seaport in Poland on the Baltic Sea with a population of 421,000

It quite probably is the Torgelow near Stettin (the one I'd referred to is very small, but still comes up when you put Torgelow into Google Maps - I had in mind that Torgelow was a little larger than that and a little further east, but was too lazy to look further!). Not quite such a small place, but still not exactly going to be particularly "lively" (Meck-Pomm has a reputation for being a little slow, and within Meck-Pomm then Uecker-Randow has a reputation for there being a little slow). Comments about woods and nature (and German probably being near-essential) still apply though - and not far from Usedom which is very nice.

From the info you give, I guess your husband might be military? From memory (of references by other people to the place, not that I've been there) then Torgelow (the one in Uecker-Randow near Poland and not the one near Waren(Müritz) has a fair few bases around. I guess the life in the town could be a bit dominated by that.

You would be right with the military. Thanks for the info from you both, plenty to go away and work through. I just cant wait to see snow again

If by snow you mean flurries then all is good...unfortunately we don't get much snow, mostly flurries...but it is something.
