The Friday Night Drinking Club (FNDC) is a meetup usually for the 20-30 age group. It also doesn't get started until late in the evening.

So how about something for the rest of us that's more our style? How about an Old Farts Drinking Club (OFDC)?

We're aiming to attract an international, English-speaking 30-and-up, single or married crowd. Under 30s are welcome, but what we're ultimately after is a symposium for a quick couple of after work drinks in an bar with some character, some characters, and a good techno-free jukebox with an operating volume knob so people can actually talk ... not necessarily in that order. Whilst a Stammtisch-style fixed recurrence would be a nice goal, we could also see this sometimes moving to a Thursday evening depending on holiday schedules.

Since the FNDC has decamped to Beyond, how 'bout let's try the first one at Waxy's at 5:30pm after work on Friday?

I would certainly be keen - you can count me in!

Hmmm, teeempting, teeempting Mr E.

As I was present at the first ever FNDC - way back last December (total attendees: 6) - I too am somewhat disappointed at the ageism that has taken hold of said gathering.

I'll try and knock off early (based in Friedrichsdorf, so would have to S-funf it) - but no promises.

Yours older-and-therefore-hopefully-wiser-ly.

@Kuzzer. We can travel together on the S-5 afterwards, as I commute from BHvdH.

So far it's already five. Two UK, one dane, one NZ and one US ... three male two female ... average age 41.

P.S. If 40's the new 20, what does that make 20 ? I was thinking of calling it "The Big People's Table", but "TBPT" is harder to pronounce thatn "OFDC", much less after a few beers.

I'm liking both the average age and the geographical split.

As this is a Symposium, presumably we need to wear togas, yes?

LOL

To each his own, but it would certainly make the group easier to pick out
hughk
Sounds interesting. Am based back in Frankfurt as of September and left the age of 30 an indeterminate number of years ago.

This sounds great to me. Unfortunately Friday won't work for me. But I will be interested in hearing the feedback.

Hi Expaticus

Thanks for organising this, hopefully a good crowd will turn up. I'll be there with my Danish boyfriend (speaks fluent English, in fact he's speaks better English than I do!) and I'll also bring another girl along from Northern Ireland.

How will we recognise you?
DanHessen
Would like to but I can't do Fridays.
Expaticus
@Scout68. Great. so far we'll be two English, one Scot, one Dane, one from Northern Ireland, one Kiwi and and one American. I'll be wearing khakis and a blue blazer. I scoped out Waxy's at 5:30pm last Friday and it was a ghost town ... excellent!

@DanHessen. Too bad. If these catch on, I'm certain we'll eventually have one on Thursday.

I'll be happy to represent Canada at this gathering. See you Friday!

I'm gonna try to make it two canucks - not sure yet, but it's looking good at the moment.

Well, if there's a Newfie there, you know it will be a great party!! Looking forward to meeting ya! I should get there around 6:30 or so.

I agree that having a Newfie there will be a great party and good representation of Canada. Not sure if a Leaf's fan would be. lol. I guess it can be a good representation of Junior Hockey in Canada.. hahaha.. The Leafs just got fingered... Who is Jeff Finger?

Sorry everyone, inside Canadian Hockey joke. Just could not resist..

A Habs Fan.. ;-)
100 years baby, bring back the cup for a 25th time.
