St Anton am Arlberg - Austrian ski resort

Best rail route from Munich?

I am trying to organise skiing to St Anton over the winter.

Anyone gone there from Munich? If i am reading the DB website right it can take 6hrs... there must be a quicker way getting there without a car, which apparently takes under 3hrs.

Any suggestions, thanks ski dudes and dudettes.

P.S. Is dudettes the correct female form of dudes?

If you leave This friday in the morning, then it will only take 3.5 Hours.
Keep looking at different time on the db site. most are under 6hrs

Is St Anton im Montafon a different place or all part of the one St Anton am Arlberg.

I really know nothing at times.

there are loads of St Antons, so be carefull!

Skt Anton in Tirol
Skt Anton in Arlberg
Skt Anton in Montafon

are all different afaik

St Anton in Montafon is a different place. I presume that you meant THE St Anton, i.e. am Arlberg. I've done it by train, with skis. Check out two routes: either via Rosenheim / Kufstein / Innsbruck, or Garmisch / Innsbruck. The second is shorter but not necessarily quicker.

the train is a fine journey, and you'll find its full of ski and snowboard bunnies going to stanton. the car journey has become shorter since they built the new tunnel but if your staying in the center finding a parking space is a bit shitty sometimes. if you go drinking go to the krazy kangeroo and when seriously pissed stumble over to the "alm" which is the most riotous bar in stanton. there are a couple of cheap pizzas places on the main street which are well frequented and are easy on your wallet. taxis as always are expensive so try and walk if by yourself or get a bunch of guys together. austria in general is becoming more and more popular with brits, especialy since the disaterous snows in the traditional brit skiing area s of france four years ago, and stanton is becoming renowned for its party reputation, but its still not ishgil. oh and when your there smack every northern german who sings 'schifahren' everytime he drinks a schnapps - its tradition.

or look at www.mitfahrzentrale.de and www.mitfahrgelegenheit.de , a lot of people are offering spaces in cars... see this link for example, currently no offers but there will be later on. There are offers to other ski resorts from Munich, like Ischgl for example...

or you could just post when you plan to go, maybe you could get a lift with one of us. I am trying to get accommodation for the 5-9th January, if I can't then we'll be going down to Lech or St.Anton later on in Jan/Feb

OK, Here's the correct St. Anton (Arlburg)
Still takes about 4hrs or so and costs around 40 Eur oneway without bahncard..

Antons good but its not ischgl . its so not ischgl. notice the real difference when the snows at a minimum (like now), anton cannot maintain the pistes like ischgl can. krazy kangaroo - keep it, elizabeth spanks on it and anyway mooserwirt is better. too many brits in stanton, mindless violence , send them to kitzbühel and soll. got the train down from munich to anton a few years back , 4hrs , change in innsbrück, pleasant but over-priced, good to get faced on. Saw two brits fighting while I was there, one got knocked down, other put a ski boot in his head, evil. scarred me. nothing krazy about that.

Go to Stanton to ski (when base > 50cm) ...and Ischgl to party (when base = x). That's my opinion. Ischgl has better snow usually since its higher in altitude overall...but Stanton has way better runs...especially down the Valuga. Sweet!!

Note: x = any number
potbelly
Yeah but Mr Bail... You didn't have to kick him when he was down as well. ph34r.gif

Heard a comment last week that Ischgl had no atmosphere & 'When does it get lively!!' ... huh.gif

The place rocks !!!

funny you should say that tho aqua, was in the south of france last year, bunch of saudis turned up, minted, oil tycoons , probably own most of marseille. Turned up acting the goat gave this english bunch of lads some gip. never seen such a one sided battle, saudis took a pounding, 3 left uncons. certainly they didnt ski again that holiday. butchery. Dunno what it is about me and ski resorts , always see a battle.
gideon
@alan i am never going skiing ever within 30 km of you. i personaly have never seen a fight on a ski train or lift or in a ski resort. oh and i've been going to stanton for over 10 years! and to correct myself i ment mooserwirt not the "alm" which i personly think is only to be enjoyed when drunk.

Thanks for info.

Is there a youth hostel in St Anton am Arlberg...?

I have missed the boat a bit, my mates have already booked a place and there is no more room at the inn where they are staying.

Cheap and cheerful is the order of the day me thinks so any tips again most appreciated.

Thanks.
Schotte
Actually the situation may have changed.

We are only going from a Wednesday - Sunday, is this often a problem for accommodation bookings, ie not a whole week? So far it seems to be.
Showem
Yes. Booking for less than a week will be a problem. You will probably have better luck closer to the time, because some hotels may have cancelations. But be careful, because they might not.
Schotte
cheers for info guys, got a place sorted eventually in St jakob which will do nicely.

also got a decent deal on the train, return from munich cost just under 60€, which apparently is half the normal price for the route i wanted to take. good to know there are such big savings if you book in advance!
