Apart from Aer Lingus, who else flies to Ireland from Munich? And who is the cheapest?

Thanks

What about SleezyJet...

Munich -> Stansted -> (BUS/Train) Gatwick -> Shannon

Seems to be a PITA but it would work

Ryanair also fly out of Salzburg to Stansted then Stansted to Dublin, Shannon & Kerry.

At the moment, the only direct flights from Munich to Ireland and vice-versa are with Aer Lingus flying into Dublin. Aer Lingus will be opening a Cork-Munich route in the Summer of 2005.

If you take in stop-overs then you've way more choice but Aer Lingus can be quite reasonably priced if you book ahead and pick the "right" dates.
exquitius
aerlingus were only 66 euro return incl taxes etc from Dublin to Munich if you had booked last week! Was only available for travel in January up to end of the 1st week of Feb though. I can vouch that was a decent availability of seats in the Aerlingus sale as i have 11 people travellling to Munich in January on the same flight. You could do worse than to wait till the new year and see if there is a sale on seats for the period when you are flying.

Try http://www.skyscanner.net it checks all the cheapo airlines and gives a really good grapical result. Highly recommend it.

Unless you want the "pleasure" of changing planes between unreliable airlines in a field of stinky cabbages (Stansted) then the best bet for Ireland does seem to be Aer Fungus. After years of trying to get decent convenient flights to where I go to; my experience is that sometimes you have to bite the bullet and try and get a good deal on the main routes. Happy trails.

The price isn't that good compared to some of the deals with Aer Lingus direct from Munich to Dublin or Cork. Plus you have the added hassle of getting to Frankfurt.

But be aware that if you are disabled, you may get removed from Ryanair flights if they consider there to be too many on board (the same people that decided to charge disabled people to use wheelchairs some time ago).

On BBC's Watchdog yesterday, they showed a group of elderly blind people that managed to board without any problem, but then the pilot said that there were already some disabled people on board and that they would have to leave the plane. They said that that was the law, but apparently there is no such law and it is just *their* regulations. Seems more than four is too much for them, although aviation regulations stipulate that there should be equal amounts of disabled and able-bodied people on board. SCUM.

More cheap flights to Ireland from Aer Lingus.

See here

Book by April 6th and fly between April 10th and May 31st.

Hey Guys,

I'm getting married this year and it would be beneficial to know if Aer Lingus usually have / plan to have a sale for Munich - Dublin / Cork for the dates 20th June and July 11th?

If anyone has someone on the inside or has any info it would be greatly appreciated...

- Steve
SleeplessInMunich
Er...check the Aer Lingus website prehaps.
thesteve
There is no sale at the moment hence nothing on their web site. I was asking does anyone remember a sale around this time of year (or is there none as its peak season), or does anyone know anyone working in Aer Lingus / their booking partners that may have inside info wink.gif
SleeplessInMunich
Yeah but they constantly have some sort of sale on these days. Just checking the dates you could fly out on the 19th of June to Cork for €25 so you aren't going to get much lower than that anyway.
exquitius
As a rule of thumb the summer is never really cheap, and the summer holidays in late July (exactly when lufthansa are flying) are pretty much always 200 euro return + even if you book in advance cos they know they'll fill it with germans and their offspring.

For June you will probably have more of a chance of a sale than July, but still and all, Ireland has the school holidays in June so flights will be busy enough with folks from Ireland on their summer holidays.

And busy flights means no bargains!!

Sometimes the prices will drop a little coming towards the time, but often the flights are totally sold out in the summer so you are looking at SILLY money for those last few seats if you get unlucky. And at that, weekend (Friday/ Sunday) flights dont ever seem to be reduced in the summer. (I am always on the lookout to get a cheapo weekend deal home to watch a match in the summer and I still havent travelled!)

The times for a proper sale are exactly now these few weeks in late april/ early may just between the ski season and summer season and the same again in the autumn just after octoberfest till christmas.

Ryanair to Fredrichshafen seems not to be as focused on Harvesting the summer holidays than Aer Lingus so maybe that is an alternative.
exquitius
NEWSFLASH!

From October Aer Lingus is flying Munich Belfast direct 3 times a week!

Flight prices are the regular el cheapo Aerlingus 15 euro each way for a random week I chose as a test booking.
Christmas also more than affordable.

We're flying to Dublin with Aer Lingus mid August, just wanted to ask if anyone here knows about their policy conc. excess luggage.
Their hp says 20kg, any excess will be charged with € 9.00 per kilo.
How strict are they concerning this? We're flying from Hamburg, but I guess that doesn't make a difference.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Skyscanner seems to be great, but I wonder why I couldn't find Australia on their list of destinations.
exquitius
They normally turn a blind eye to a couple of kilo over but much more than that and you'll end up paying.

For example, a couple of weeks ago my handluggage was weighed by the checkin staff and they let me away with 8kg rather than the 6kg that is permitted.

So there is leniance with them but you still wouldnt want to pull the piss either or you'll be paying 9 euro a kg!!!

With 2 of you travelling surely you'll manage to be under 40kg combined though?
Hammonia
lol, my bf surely wouldn't have a problem. I must admit that I tend to take SLIGHTLY more than I need... rolleyes.gif

was just thinking of the way back as we want to buy some stuff over there...
exquitius
You really shouldnt have a problem then.
For the 2 of you, you have checkin luggage of 40kg plus hand luggage of 12 kg which makes 52 kg of luggage in total.
That's a lot of cheddar cheese and rashers in order to hit the limit!!
Hammonia
But I want to buy a bodhran... laugh.gif

Yeah, you're probably right. Thanks for sharing your experience, tho. smile.gif

But I want to buy a bodhran...

Why go to Ireland to buy a bodhran when the irish come to this guy to buy them... He's extremely highly regarded and one of the most sought after makers in the world... and he's on your doorstep (Sulzemoos)...

Hammonia
Hmmmmmmmmm - let me think.
Why.
Maybe because we happen to go to Ireland. Being based in Hamburg Sulzenmoos is not EXACTLY on our doorstep... tongue.gif

But thanks for the tip smile.gif
