If you are in the Marienplatz area some time soon, there is a very good
art exhibition happening now at the Kunsthalle on Theatinerstrasse 8, by
the Fünf Höfe shopping plaza.

It is called "Gauguin, Van Gogh bis Dali". There are also quite a few
works by Kampinsky, Miro, Renoir, Monet and more. It's worth a stroll
through if you have an hour or so!

The museum is open from 10-20h, and it cost is 4€. The exhibit is only
there until Jan 9th.

I'm actually planning on going down there this Saturday afternoon, followed by glühwein. Feel free to join me if you like.

Hiya
I went to this in September and have the catalogue if anyone wants a peek.
Here is the exhibition website - Folkwang: the first modern art museum
What is good about this exhibition is that the majority of visitors stand staring at only 3 pictures leaving a lot of lesser-known gems for those who know what they like. biggrin.gif Don't miss the chance to see the Man Ray book on the way out, most people walk straight past it.
And at 4€ it is an absolute steal.

The curation of the art works were the highlight of that exhibition at the funf hofe. I recall only 1 or 2 Dali paintings, so the exhibition name is a bit misleading.

However I recommend the state museums, especially the pinakothek der modern. They have a excellent selection of Warhol and the surrealists. As well, there is a Bill Viola installation which is worth seeing and also the "Change" art installation by Karim Rashad which was incredibly innovative and breathtaking. Although, I dont suggest this for people who do not understand modern art. As well, not forgetting to mention that it is a beautiful building and a great place to meet interesting people on the sundays. wink.gif
