I always pay for stuff on
eBay using paypal. But Im nowin berlin and finding that most German auctions only accept a bank transfer. I dont have a german bank account however. Can anyone advice me on how I might go about paying? Can I just walk into a bank here and ask for money to be transferred into someone's account, without me actually having an account?

get their IBAN number and pay from your irish bank. Not sure if they charge for international transfers though, certainly Halifax do (or used to).
You have to transfer from your bank and will need the BIC and IBAN number of the person whose account your transfering to. You will be probably be able to do this online. It costs 20 pounds from the UK, I'm not sure about EIRE.

If you are now in Berlin, open a German bank account, and then you can do it all online again!

Ireland has the Euro. And all monetary transactions are supposed to be free when using the IBAN and BIC within the Euro-Zone.
MichiS is correct.
As an aside: I sell on German
eBay and it's quite surprising how many International bank transfers (euro-zone, using IBAN/BIC)) arrive quicker than the German Überweisung from someone 50km away.

i agree with spookyfellow, if you live in Berlin open a german bank account, all you need is proof of address, bill, and residency and like all other european banks you can get an account. although eire is also euro you will not be charged for currency change but will be charged for handling. I buy and sell on English and German
e-bay and pay by both pay pal and uberweisung.

The law is that transferring money from one eurozone country to another should cost the same as a national transfer.
So for example if Bank of Ireland charges you 20c for a transfer to National Irish Bank then it'll also charge you 20c for a transfer to Deutsche Bank.
