Hi,

I would like to take a walk from Pfaueninsel to Potsdam this Saturday (weather permitting). The walk should take about 1-1.5 hours on flat terrain and marked trail. I am unsure where exactly we will end up in Potsdam, so if someone has done it before, your comments would be helpful.

The idea is to meet in Charlottenburg at about 11am. It would take about 45 mins to get to Pfaueninsel by bus (direct). So, we're looking at a half day trip, including lunch (BYO) somewhere along the trip.

The only cost would be transport ticket (if you don't already have a monthly pass for AB zone), and for C zone if you're catching public transport in Potsdam and/or back to Berlin.

Is anyone else interested?

Looks like there are no takers. But I am still going for the hike today.

Anyone who would like to join, turn at the bus stop outside Kaiser's at Theodor-Heuss PLatz (U2) at 11am. Look for a petite Asian woman with a small, black daypack.

Hi Jade,
I think your trying to set up this group is a great idea! Next outing you think of going on, post it up and if I'm free, I will come along!

Looking forward to discovering some new parts,

Charis

I missed the original post too, but I agree - sounds like a nice way to clear the cobwebs come early autumn!

Hi there, I missed the original post but I would definitely be interested in doing any nature-related hikes in or outside of Berlin. Maybe we could organise an outing to the Sächsische Schweiz near Dresden?
berlinender
I missed it too - and would definely be interested...James, would love to go to Sächsische Schweiz, Erzgebirge..

Hi Jade

we'll be moving to Basdorf bei Berlin in a couple of weeks. The village is in the middle of Barnim naturepark and looks like it offers great opportunities for Wandern.

If you want an Autumn exploration around North Berlin we would gladly participate, and we could perhaps volunteer our house as a meeting point and after-hike warming drinks (it's only a ten-minute walk from the Heidebahn train station). Hmm, you could help with the decorating as a warm-up too!

Hope to hear from you and similarly minded hikers in Berlin/Brandenburg.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the positive replies. Just so you know, the hike from Pfaueninsel to Potsdam was awesome. Lucky for me, my friend had been on the walk before (but there are several routes you can take), and we walked through the forest. We ended up walking around the northern part of Park Babelsberg, where all the castles/palaces are. I am thinking of making another hike there to visit a couple of the castles and go up one of the towers when it is a clear day to take photos (I am a hobby photographer).

I am definitely keen to explore Sächsische Schweiz @Jamesm. And @Serenissima, thank you so much for your offer. I look forward to that, and I am sure the others, too. I did think of proposing longer trips out later when the group got bigger, and making use of the 5-for-1 weekend tickets that DB offers. But looks like we can do that very soon

Anyway, I would like to go for another outing this Saturday, 16 August 2008. Anyone keen or have any idea where to go?

Hi Jade,

I can't make it this weekend unfortunately, but definitely another time. At the moment, my walking shoes and showerproofs are in the old country - I could improvise with flip-flops and a trench coat, I suppose, but I think I'd better wait for my other gear!

Damn! Would have loved to join but have people visiting. I will definitely make it to the next one!

Hey
I would be interested as well, would it be OK for my dog to come along too? He's used to big walks.
I arrive in Berlin on the 24th all being well so should be available after that, once I get over the jetlag from the UK!!!

Dogs are welcome. I like dogs, but don't like them enough to keep as pets.

The weather forecast doesn't seem too good for this Saturday, so there might not be a trip.

I'd love to join, but being relatively new to Berlin, I can't offer any advice on where to go!

Paul.

@Paulbb
If the weather forecast tomorrow still says rain on Saturday, I prefer not to go. Its not because I am afraid of getting wet, but being unfamiliar with the terrain/route as well makes it a bit dangerous.

It will be a museum visit for me if it rains Saturday

Especially for James and Berlinender,

I am very interested in going up to the Sächsische Schweiz but I suggest to make a weekend event out of it: camping in September!! How does that sound to you?
