I'll try and get there maybe a bit after 4pm though. Have got Trainspotting which is a great read but it helps to have a wee bit of knowledge as to how those Scot's talk, espeshlly when they've had a wee dram or 2...
TrainspottingAlso Tell No One by Harlan Coben which is a good suspensful read
Tell No OneAnd Prime Witness by Steve Martini which was OK but kinda stopped pretty quickly, maybe the publisher had a page limit which the guy forgot about until about 20 pages before the end...
Prime WitnessS
Great! Sunday's are always easier to manage. I'll be there with as many books as I can carry in my backpack. I'll try to bring a mix. Most of them bestseller braincandy stuff. Mysteries and thrillers for chilling out. Hope to get more.

Think I may have a copy of Trainspotting as well that I couldn't understand. If anyone else can I'll bring it along.

30 KINDS OF HOT CHOCOLATE!!! Gen, you're a gem (tears of gratitude on the keyboard at this point). I've very few books over here, sadly (that's why I posted that thread about lending libraries), but I'll bring what I can spare, and beads and mirrors and whatever for some old-fashioned bartering.
right, 4 pm, like the title says...

Bartering, now that's a neat idea too. Wonder what sorts of other things people have to trade?
I'll be going to the
Used Bookstore Anniversary party on Saturday as well. I'm sure I'll still have enough swappers, though I still don't know just what I'll bring along. Anyone else doing the bookstore party as well? Have you made table reservations at the Trachtenvogl and under what name?

I'm pretty sure that I'll make it also. I don't have too many books here but I'll bring a couple Anne Rice books and some of the Dune series.

I have to go to Trachtenvogl personally to reserve, they say they've had bad experiences with reservations by phone. Well, all right, I'll do that, turns out I live pretty close to the place.
Hmm, from the thread so far it looks like "Toytown" for ten people, give or take a few. I think I'll go to the brunch too... WHOAH catching up on that thread means YES I'll be at the TB Brunch. Mmmmm biscuits.

OK, I'm turning up for this.
Is it 4pm like the title says, or 16.30 like you wrote on the TB brunch thread?
what? must've been a typo, I'll correct it. 16:00. Yeah, ice skating is at 13:30.

Typical, isn't it. Two blokes, the rest women. But it really is a fact of life, that in our part of the world at least, women buy more books and read more books (and swap more books, by the look of it

).
Come on, guys, it won't all be Rosamund Pilcher and illustrated guides to needlepoint!
QUOTE
From the age of six girls read more books than boys and this trend continues through their lives. Girls are three times more likely than boys to borrow books from a public library.

hmm, wonder where Owain glydnwaeserwdray is with Dean Koontz that we didn't get to trade last time -- and canuck's been a regular too, but he's going ice skating.

I am amazed at triplechoc observation that there are only two blokes (including me) coming. (but I do not dispute it). Do women really read more than men? For what it is worth most of the books I will b e bringing are either history or sifi books and a couple of Dilbert books.

I know a lot of guys who read, but they do tend to be in the closet about it. Tend to discuss sports more when down at the pub. You know, sports, alcohol, books, music. Modern renaissance men.

well, then, we should organize a come-out book-swap for all those closet-readers..
It's true, andrew05, and not just for the UK or Germany for that matter, but for most of the "developed" world, incl. the US. There's loads of studies on the issue, see e.g.
reading habits, UKI rarely read sci-fi nowadays but if you happen to bring any Ray Bradbury I'll definitely have a look.
I had a great time - 17 people showed after I'd reserved for 10, must get a reservation form set up for next time.

I found the place way too smoky but the chocolate was great. Met with Stywiz of
http://www.Bookcrossing.com, turns out they don't always set their books free but they trade a lot among each other too. Germans and random other people, so lots of English books there too. Must get a page set up about the various bookswaps in town -- the International Ski Club does one too. I'll post links somewhere on TT...

By the way Gen, I forgot to take away any unread books (I bought about 15 but am pretty sure all but a couple went).
I don't mind, but had a heart attack when I realised you'd have to carry them home! Was everything ok?
Sorry, will drink less and sleep more before the next one
actually we wondered who brought the Jilly whatsername, nobody wanted those. I took a bunch, Stywiz took a bunch, mine will end up at the TB as soon as they've got the book room set up. I took the SF short stories to read though, I love short stories. I'm in contact with Dave Dowdy about having bookswaps at the Munich Used Bookshop too. The more the merrier!

please can we not go to that cafe again, the service was bad even for German standards
I want to go to the Twisted Bavarian in the future, where the lending library will be set up. Just waiting for a date before I set up the next one there...
