Hi guys. I'm going to be doing some Ikea shopping this weekend and will likely drop a couple of grand. Can anyone tell me how Ikea's delivery works? How long does it take? Does it fall within a range (for example, anything up to 500 euros = x delivery charge, anything up to 1000 euros = y, etc.)
Also, does Ikea take credit cards like Mastercard?

IKEA takes Mastercard but not Visa.Delivery Payments and T&C (I can't c&p from that text for some reason, but the prices are there).

How about checking out
the Ikea web site for that info?

3. Lieferung:

Bipa, because I neither speak nor read German, and I didn't really find that page very informative when I translated it with Google. I actually looked at exactly that page before I posted this.
"The shipping package is in transit € 9 per package, - (weight up to 30 kg, size up to 168 x 60 cm). Delivery may be in several packages, if this is due to the volume of goods or goods of the weight is required. For deliveries by shipping, the shipping order on-line € 49, - "when ordering by phone, fax or letter € 79,"
I'm sure that makes a lot more sense in German, but I have a hard time parsing it. It also seems to directly contradict Toytown's Wiki page on Ikea, which only goes up to 400 euros. I was looking for people's actual experiences going into the store, picking a lot of stuff out, then having it delivered.
What I'm basically wondering is, if I just walk into Ikea and pick out a couple grand worth of stuff, whether I'll be looking at delivery fees in the hundreds of euros and delivery times of 2-4 weeks, or matters of days. If anyone can answer this from experience, I'd appreciate it.

Just use the möbel taxi (which means furniture taxi...

) outside. It's not that expensive and for about 2.50€ per floor, they'll take it upstairs for you too! I think we paid about 40€ for them to bring everything back to Mitte and you get a ride too!

I wrote that
Wiki page and it's correct. I'm almost always correct. There was one occasion when I thought I was wrong, but it turned out I was mistaken.
You're confusing the delivery charges for store customers (the first paragraph of the "Delivery options" section) with the delivery charges for online shoppers (2nd paragraph).
Information on delivery charges for store customers is available from the
Transport-Service brochure (PDF).

last year, i went to Ikea personnaly and i bought over 1000€ worth of stuff from Ikea and had it delivered. it cost 79€, which you pay for at the check out counter. delivery time was 4 weeks because it was a kitchen, otherwise it is within a week. after you pay, you call a IKEA logistics hotling and arrange a delivery time based. you need an invoice number for this, which you get after you pay.
if you order online, delivery charges are cheaper.

What's the deal with the furniture taxi? Is there an item/weight limit? Or is it just set price + 2.50 moving fee per item per floor, no matter what?
Thanks for being so helpful, guys. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by all this... it's my first time buying furniture in my adult life (not sure how I managed to go 12 years without doing so)

I think it's a set fee depending on where in the city you live. They have big Ford transit van type vehicles so I assume they'll transport as much as you can fit in there! The website (all in German) seems to suggest that it depends on the value of what you're buying but I don't remember that being the case.
http://www.moebeltaxi-berlin.de/preise_ikea.html bis = Up to
ab = From
Grundpreis = Basic price
Warenwert = Value of the goods
I think there are a few companies that do the same thing and they'll just be hanging around the exit. There should be a thread on this already.

We realised this when you said you were going to IKEA.

Dr Crypt - it would help if you'd have already given that information in the first post, then we wouldn't have wasted our time.
