Hello TTers,
So I've read a massive number of threads all on converting driver's licenses and using International Driving Permits (IDP) and length of residency and everything, and I'm STILL stuck... Here's my situation.
I've been living here in Germany for 10 months and will stay for a total of 12. I was not planning on driving for the entire length of my stay, but plans change, and now I'm hoping I can. I know that because I am not staying for more than a year, I could keep driving on my same American license, with an addendum sheet of paper saying I'm leaving the country soon, BUT because I'm an idiot, and didn't consider this sooner, will have to pay 100 Euro for that whole process, and I honestly do not have the cash. I cannot get a German driver's license because 1) I'm from Connecticut and must take the theoretical exam to be eligible and 2) Don't have the time to do so before I have to drive somewhere
My question is... can I drive in OTHER countries in the EU (i.e. not Germany/one's where I don't have residency) with my regular American license and IDP even though I've already been here for 10 months?
Thanks for hearing me out,
Vicktory
