Can anybody please tell me what type of plant this is ?

We found it as a small cutting when we took the apartment, it has now grown to a height of 2 meters . Would be most grateful for any help on the subject smile.gif

cheers ...godber
Bell the cat
kind of looks like bougainvillea
Von
The shape of the flowers suggest it's a pink Begonia Dragon Wing (or similar). See the 4th pic, top row, on the google image search.

Edit: Or maybe a pink Begonia Angel Wing. 10th pic.

Looks like a Triffid to me, or even one of those plants from Invasion of the Body Snatchers, does it grow massive pods?

Whatever it is, do not let toddlers and pets get anywhere near it. Also it would'nt be a bad idea to have a fully loaded M16 rigged with a motion sensor pointed at it.
Von
Actually godber, both pics are the same plant. One has been trained up a fence and the second has been trained as a (wo)man eating Triffid.

Your post caught my attention as Oma has one in the Hof and kept asking what it was. I'd assumed it was related to the Fuschia family but I was wrong.

With over 1500+ species of Begonia, my research took me into some of the more seedier (geddit?) realms of the internet. It's hard to believe that there's sick and twisted people out there who form 'societies' dedicated to the plant and call themselves 'Begonians'.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the most shocking are the 'Hybridizers'. Mission statement: 'Hybridizing Begonias is an Art Form'.

These green fingered perverts 'cross-breed' recognised named species in the hope that they will produce a new mutant specimen. If successful, they then get to pet and name it. * shudder*

BTW: It's a cane Begonia Angel Wing.

You're welcome. wink.gif
