Actually godber, both pics are the same plant. One has been trained up a fence and the second has been trained as a (wo)man eating Triffid.
Your post caught my attention as Oma has one in the Hof and kept asking what it was. I'd assumed it was related to the Fuschia family but I was wrong.
With over 1500+ species of Begonia, my research took me into some of the more seedier (geddit?) realms of the internet. It's hard to believe that there's sick and twisted people out there who form 'societies' dedicated to the plant and call themselves 'Begonians'.
Without a shadow of a doubt, the most shocking are the 'Hybridizers'. Mission statement: 'Hybridizing Begonias is an Art Form'.
These green fingered perverts 'cross-breed' recognised named species in the hope that they will produce a new
mutant specimen. If successful, they then get to pet and name it. * shudder*
BTW: It's a
cane Begonia Angel Wing.
You're welcome.
