All Saints Day - 1st November. My coworker told me that this is just a school holiday so stores, etc, would be open, but everything else says this is a public holiday (usually everything is closed). Can someone clear this up? Thanks!

An update for anyone who might not be aware. There ain't nothing gonna be open on Reunification day - 4th October. However, if you're badly stuck there's plenty of petrol stations (but they're very expensive) around or you can take a schlep out to the airport to Edeka.

probably
but switzerland might be open since it is not a catholic country (most cantons near the german border are not anyway) - bit of a trek, I realise, but if you are desperate...

According to
travelinfo.de/ferienkalender, November 1st is also a holiday in Austria. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean that they'll close everthing down like they do here...

What's the score with pubs clubs and bars on Saturday 4th October??? Don't tell me it's a day of watching TV that awaits me???

No, 90% of pubs and clubs will be open as usual especially the Irish and Aussie bars because there are big rugby games on this weekend in the world cup and no doubt some football too.
However, that said, I remember from last year there is some law about no music on All Saints day from midnight to midnight and the police actually go around to the bars enforcing it. So unfortunately that means an early end probably to some halloween parties. And I have no idea how the clubs get around this, maybe with some special licencee???

I DO - I REALLY DO KNOW!!!
Yes, they are open over the long weekend during normal (WM) shop hours.
No, they are not open on the holiday.
By the day, your CapsLock key is broken.

YES - WM HOURS IN MUNICH INCLUDE SUNDAY SHOPPING
But not on the Thursday. Sundays are no longer sacred in Germany, but holidays still are...

Muller where I live (
Isartor) is open, well soon. Something to do with the World-Cup, they have decided to open Sundays and public holidays from 12-8pm.

Today is a holiday in Bavaria but not necessarily in other Länder, so it's hardly surprising that shops should be open in Hamburg but not in Munich.
