Dunno if this is another teething problem due to the
recent software upgrade, but "Find Member's Posts" doesn't seem to be working. Maybe I'm just a sick-minded stalker who deserves to be locked up, but these days so much drivel gets posted, that the only way to pick out stuff worth reading is to follow the members who more often than not do in fact post stuff worth reading. How else am I going to relish the superawesomeness of don_riina (not to mention superawesome relish), the ineffably elusive wit of yeti, or the sin of Marmite indulgence (or vice-versa), to name but a few?
Come to think of it, how am I even going to find my own posts, if I can't even stalk myself?

I'm glad someone else raised it first - I just came looking for this thread to say much the same. If I can no longer post-stalk, I may have to indulge in my very first flounce instead.

I have the same problem (being a stalker that is).
Seriously, I thought it was our pc at home, but have the same problem at work with another system.

This function is temporarily disabled because it was causing performance problems on the server.
Hopefully it'll be fixed soon.

"Hopefully"? Well, I for one very much hope so. The stalking function isn't just some cute little extra feature, it's fundamental to the TT experience for a number of reasons:
- Firstly, with so many users on here, it's a way to check out the people who post quality stuff, to find good or just plain fun discussions to join in.
- Secondly, it's a way to see what your friends are getting up to - isn't social networking one of TT's main functions?
- Thirdly, I need it to check back over what I've posted myself, and to remember which threads I've posted in.
- Fourthly, it's invaluable for checking out the posting history of suspected trolls, duplicate sign-up names, and general psychopaths and weirdos.
- Fifthly ... I'm sure someone can come up with several more reasons.
If this feature doesn't get reinstated, I might as well stop posting. Goodbye cruel world.

I'm happy without it - mainly cuz I know how it was being used to stalk my posts (and no that's not an attack, it's a fact).

Ah, I wondered what was going on yesterday. I actually wanted to use it to stalk Ruth, but the OTHER Ruth, and no, I'm not schizophrenic. Interestingly enough, since I signed up, the number of Ruth-related names on TT has about doubled, and I wanted to see what these people were writing, but alas, twas not possible. Oh well, it caused me to get off me arse and do something useful for once...

C'mon, you WANT me to stalk you really. You know you do. UPS delivering you tasty treats with cryptic messages attached? Thinking you've seen me out of the corner of your eye on Marienplatz, then finding a delicous tortilla de patatas in your handbag? You love it.

You could use "favourite member posts" in the Xtra features.

That doesn't work either. At least not for me.
Edit: wait a sec. Maybe it does.
Edit 2: it does work! Heh! Thanks, marie-claire.

And another thing:
- Sixthly - What about all those wonderful people who I like to imagine are addicted to my posts. How am I going to bear the loneliness of knowing that no-one out there is stalking me any more?
- Seventhly - Without the stalking function, we can't indulge in sweet nostalgia like this: Your first post on TT, what was it?
Marie-claire: thanks for the tip, I didn't think of that. Better than nothing, but not so great coz it only shows a limited number of posts. So for a prolific poster it will only show their posts from the last few days - not ideal if you've been away for a week and want to catch up. And not much use for some of the other things I listed.
Ah well, I see the powers that be have deemed this topic important enough to be split off into a thread of its own (I started it in another thread), and the subtitle does say "
Temporarily disabled", so there is hope.
Oh, and if don_riina is doing the stalking, can I join the party too?

I miss stalking people too.

PS- the favorite members whatsit function pales in comparison to good old-fashioned tt stalking.

Still good for a quick fix though, and it's quite cool having whole pages of quality posts with no crap in between. I've finally stopped twitching. Thanks marie-claire!

good morning!
well, it had never occurred to me that anyone would want to "stalk" anyone else on here, but now I know!
Does anybody have any info as to when this function will be working again - I´ve never stalked in my life, but would be interested in trying - if anyone has any tips for me, please PM me NOW, okay?
thanks!

Robinson100 (and all other wannabe stalkers): Believe me, stalking is great! Go on, try it! (Well OK, once it gets fixed.) It really is a great way to get to know people. Someone posts something interesting or amusing or simply awesome, and you want to know more about them, what kind of stuff they write about, see if they've posted any other good stuff? Easy - just click their name next to the post, and select "Find Member's Posts" from the drop-down menu. Or go to their member profile and follow the link from there. Except that for now it doesn't work

.
This "Favourite member posts" thingy in Xtra is a bit of a poor alternative coz you first have to go to Xtra, then type in the member's name (and remove any other members you might have in your list so they don't clutter up the results). And you don't get all their posts, only the most recent ones.
Oh, and another thing:
- Eighthly - "Favourite member posts" no use if you want to retrieve something you wrote weeks ago, and you remember more-or-less the date you wrote it, but not which thread you posted in.
- Ninthly - As for "eighthly" if you want to retrieve something you remember someone else writing.
Yeah, OK, I admit, the main reason I'm going mad listing all this stuff is coz I just discovered how easy it is to use the "Insert list" feature.

This function has been now been re-enabled.
It should work quite a bit faster than previously.
The catch is, it won't show quite all the posts for all members. There are convoluted technical reasons for this. I won't bore you with the details. But basically, for long-time members the first few months of posts will be missing from the results list. All the posts still exist in the forum, of course. It's just that "view all member posts" won't list the very earliest ones. This only applies to members who registered more than a year ago and have made a very large number of posts.

Paradoxically the "
Interest Groups" function is not working either and fellow stalkers cannot find other member with similar interests to stalk on them, such as stalking.

do you have any good "stalking" tips for me - I´m new to this???

Jul 20 2008, 4:56 pm
There is a TT Stalkers meet-up every week at a different venue if you want to join.
It is very similar to other TT meet-ups. The only differences are that when someone talks everybody listens, there are no tables and people sit forming a big circle.

- is there any sort of dress code - dark glasses, raincoat, newspaper...???

You are mixing things up. The raincoats are for the TT exhibitionists. They meet up every week at a different U-Bahn Station.

Oh, I didn´t realise that the raincoats are for another purpose - I know somebody who wears one :-)

WooHoo!! It works again! Thanks, Editor Bob!

Bit strange about the earliest posts of prolific long-term posters being lost in the mists of time, but I suppose it gives the jedi an aura of mystique.

Tin foil hats
I went to stalk read a members previous posts just now and got the following:
The error returned was:
The load on the server is currently too high for this function. Please try again later in the day.
Dunno if it means anything geeky or just the fact that everyone on the forum is stalking each other at the same time.

I bet some people are gutted that the traffic is too high and they can't stalk
this poster
TT just wouldn't be the same without this function.
