Configuring a WLAN repeater

Extending the range of a base access point

Further to a recent post about problems connecting my PC (in the basement) to our WLAN, I bought a Siemens Gigaset 108 to extend the range of the base access point ( a FritzBox).

I have tried for several hours to configure the system but I just can't get it to work. My basement PC connects to the WLAN (as confimrd by the SSID) but I cannot connect to the internet. I've studied the user manual for the FritzBox and the 108 and I'm not totally ignorant in these matters but so far I've been unsuccessful mad.gif

The security is set up for WPA2/FSK but I think the problem has something to do with recognition of IP addresses. I've disabled the DHCP in the 108 and the FritzBox has DHCP enabled. I realise there are several things which could cause this problem but, before I resort to calling the help-line, does anyone have an idea what could be wrong? I thought that this would be a relatively easy job... wrong!

I've established a connection between my Fritzstick and my Fritzbox 7050 via the Siemens 108 repeater and an IP address has been successfully assigned to the Fritzstick by the DHCP server in the Fritzbox. The DHCP server in the Siemens repeater has been disabled and I've assigned a static IP address (outside of the Fritzbox DHCP server's range). Everything appears ok except, I still can't connect to the internet! Any ideas, anyone?

ok I've got it working now. Just one more - big! - problem - It appears that I can't use WPA encription because my repeater ( Siemens 108) is not from the same manufacturer as the base unit (Fritzbox). As far as I'm concerned this is next to useless. WEP security is a joke. WPA2 is an international protocol but even though my Siemens supports it, Fritzbox have seen to it that you have to buy their equipment, configured as a repeater, for it to work. Bloody Fritzbox! mad.gif

Try checking if there is any firmware updates for both devices.

Thanks Krieg. I've already uploaded the latest firmware for both devices but WPA still dosen't work. I've also tried contacting Fritzbox (AVM) but they've not replied to my enquiry.
