Cool and not cheesy gift ideas

My slightly older brother (boomer as in Baby Boomer) has another birthday soon.
Here is what he would NOT like: lederhosen, beer steins or football shirts. Any brilliant ideas?
Does not have to be German; could be anything European.
He likes to cook and is very good at it, but I have not seen any kitchen stuff that's not available at Sur La Table and so on.
I don't know any particular sources for unique French or Italian items. Are there any here in Munich?
Yes, I realize I can order something from amazon.com. But that's no fun.
Thank you for your participation!

My Dad's in his early 50s, and I was planning on getting him one of the fancy German Fuller pens. You can get a cheaper one like they give to the school kids here (15-30 euro price range), or you can go for one of the serious grown-up Fullers, which will be considerably more expensive from what I've seen. I don't know if your brother would be interested in this, but if he's as hard to shop for as my Dad, it might be an idea. Happy Hunting!

A radish cutter (Radischneider)

Does he have a garden? Then some radish seeds as well.

What about one of those red-letter day things, do they have them here?

A friend of mine was 50 recently, already has everything you could possilbly not need, so he got a day out doing something exciting - unfortunately what it acutally was esapes me at the moment, but like a hot-air ballon ride, helicoper ride etc. - and as he is mad about Land-Rovers he also got a years subscription to a Land-Rover magazine. It takes all sorts!

Or, if he is in to wine, what about a bottle of something vintage e.g. Champagne, from his year of birth.

All depends how deep your pockets are.

Oh, me like the Radi & Chips. I wonder if you can make homemade potato chips with it. I will also check out the pens; don't think I have seen that brand.
Thanks!

Get a heavy duty one for potatoes, make sure the blade is seriously sharp. They make delightful deep-fried potato cringles!

Which part of the 1946-1964 baby-boomer spectrum is your brother?

I'm at the 1964 end - and /my/ older brother is at the other extreme; our tastes differ wildly . . . .
