Warm , beach, New Year 3 hour flight... thats pushing it. Even the flight times to the Canaries are longer than 3 hours.

Madeira. They have amazing fireworks, see here
http://www.madeirablog.eu/2007/01/03/madei...orks-the-video/ , a perfect climate and the warmest weather you can get with a short distance flight from Germany.

Malta is great but the beaches suck.

I'd agree with that, went there last christmas, it was great. However, there are no beaches on Madeira itself, though you could take a day trip to Porto Santo which has plenty. Madeira is also very hilly so I'd recommend staying close to the coast.

Egypt is the only place that would be really warm and where you could guarantee good weather. Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh will be around 20 to 25 degrees. The water will still be relatively warm because it won't have had time to cool down yet after the incredibly hot summer. It's only 3 hours away too.

Egypt's red sea coast is a good destination, but flying time is 5 hours or more.

I don't think there is anywhere within three hours' flight that will be warm enough to be on the beach in December.
Certainly not Malta or Tunisia, or anywhere in Greece. Egypt, yes, but it's further than three hours.

I flew to Cairo in 3 hours, so I can't imagine Sharm or Hurghada would take that much longer.. an hour max.

Frankfurt-Cairo direct flight takes 5 hours (Egypt Air or Lufthansa).

I didn't want to fly to Egypt because I always thought is was such a long flight. Can you tell me which airline, departure airport and possible the year of travel. I'll be practically on my way to Cairo if it's just 3 hours.
Thanks

I flew with Air Egypt. I believe scheduled was 3.5 hours, but it was only 3 in the end. From Frankfurt it could be more. You're going to have to fly further than 3 hours really if you want decent heat/sunshine.

pleeeez help meeeee!
Yes, I am aware i could have googled but all i had to go on was a vague idea that it would be good to go somewhere warm for new year. A bit vague for google even. Now TT has suggested some destinations (and that you all who replied) I can start to check those places out. Plus, the thread is a reference point for others who might be thinking te same thing.
as you were.

Bluedave did you direct your post at me?
If so, you little wanna be flier: It is absolutely impossible to fly to Cairo in 3 hours, not even from Munich.
There is no jet stream over the Mediterranean.
It's over 1600 miles, no commercial plane flies more than 500 miles/hr.
Hence I aksed that cynical question what I thought about flying times to Hutcho.
You sure went for it.
BTW: I've been to Egypt, and even more often to Israel. I know most major travel times out of the top of my head.
No go and find another "Idle Bastard", or even better visit the Wank this weekend. Happy walking while on the wank. Would that be called wanking.

Absolute bollocks. Maybe do a little research first before you make such claims.

Well Crawlie
I'm well aware (and actually have been on board a Concorde) that there are planes faster, but not within the scope of this post: Munich to Cairo.
I'm offering you in private to exchange our frequent fliers statements. I have flown over 2 million miles, hope you can keep up with my flying.
If you underprivileged child of SFO would ever venture outside, you would see that no 767 is being used for such a flight MUC-CAI.
I hope you understand my suggestion: Please put some flowers in your hair and drive over to Berkeley. Southwest Airlines will take you on their 767 to any place you want to go.
Oops forgot, the fog may have crept into your capabilities regarding passing judgment about air travel.

The 747 routinely flies at over 500mph and was the fastest current airliner in the world until the A380 arrived, can't be bothered to google the actual speeds but it's in the order of .88 and .89 Mach respectively.

Awesome eh?
Just wanted to correct your post. And, for the record, you said that there is NO COMMERCIAL AIRCRAFT capable of flying over 500 mph and two people have proven you wrong now.

I don't know how far you want to go but I would head to the Caribbean to Dominica. It's absolutely beautiful there. It has emerald pools, boiling lakes, waterfalls, great food, and unspoiled natural beauty everywhere. It's also a UNESCO world heritage site.
