Anyone up for drinks in Stuttgart tonight? If so, please suggest a location.
PilotChris
Thirsty Thursday is back! In the interest of comfy seating, indoor heating, and good drinks, let's do this week's event at California Bounge.

When: Thursday Nov 13, 2008, 8:30pm
Where: California Bounge, Börsenplatz 1, Stuttgart
Nearest U-Bahn is Friedrichsbau (Börse), and it's very close to Schloßplatz and the Hauptbahnhof. If you're having trouble finding it, it's visible across the street (the B-27) from Palast der Republik.

Hope to see you all there! Newcomers are especially welcome... We're a friendly crowd! Please come prepared to nudge me awake, as I'll be fresh off of a flight from the States and jetlagged like nobody's business. If you think you might not be able to find the place (or recognize us -- the big english-speaking crowd), PM me for my number!

Just a quick *bump* - we're on for tonight (Thursday) at Bounge, 8:30pm! See everybody there!
ual777
Just an F.Y.I from 17.00- 20.00 is happy hour. All cocktails are 5 Euro.
MarcusEvans
I will be there for some Wülle or whatever it's called. 2 for 5 euros!
PilotChris
Good point, ual777! I started some previous Thirsy Thursday's earlier at Bounge for this reason, but very few people showed up early. This time, I happen to have some work friends who will be there early and might very well show up for a 5 Euro cocktail!
PilotChris
By popular request, we're trying a new venue this week.

Thirsty Thursday: Ciba Mato
Thursday, November 20, 8:30pm

Wilhelmsplatz 11 (see map)

Hope to see you all there! If you roll with Facebook, you can also RSVP on the Facebook event page.
MarcusEvans
Looks awesome, but oh so expensive. They serve Bling Water. WTF?
PilotChris
Quick *bump* as a reminder: this is coming up tomorrow (Thursday). Marc has promised to buy the first 10 arrivals a carafe of Bling Water! See you there!
adrianlondon
I'll be there. Bling it on!
MarcusEvans

(Adrian, fix this please. I are suck at HTML)
WinerDiner
I'll be there! I see they serve "Sexy Food". Does this mean the Corn Flakes are served in topless packets?
adrianlondon
All your pictures are belong to us.

That was not was I was aiming for. I meant an embedded image on the post, or is that not possible here? Oh well, thanks anyhow.
adrianlondon
Fussy.

kent_73
Shit. Missed this evening's meet-up, but feel free to post when the next one is then hopefully I can manage it next time.
MarcusEvans
Oh my god. I am utterly, totally drunk. It's all everyones fault! *Lots of thanks to serene and other people...yes.*
adrianlondon
Thanks for bringing a little bit of Colchester to Stuttgart.
MarcusEvans
Perfectly all right. Right, so...

Ciba Mato? Interesting to try once or twice but it definatley is not a wallet friendly place. You could easily sink 30 euros or more into cocktails in the space of an hour or two. Dangerous drinking. That combined with silly things like Bling H20 ( 59 € ) makes it all a bit too pricey for me. However, the cocktails were fantastic. So, conclusion (i'm still drunk btw):

If you like your cocktails and have a wallet that doesn't mind being pillaged of its entire contents then this is definatley a bar you should try. I've been told that in the summer it really shines but i'll have to wait and see before I can judge anything like that tongue.gif

When I got my Tanqueray Gin martini, for 11€, I was annoyed to find it was served in a tumbler, with ice, and not properly in a martini glass (shaken with ice - you don't fill a f/king martini with ice!! - olives etc).

However, after I'd finished complaining I then realised that, despite the lack of presentation, and once I'd taken out all the ice cubes and thrown them under the chair, I was actually holding a huge tumbler full of excellent gin. I got a bit drunk and only needed the one cocktail.

The beers seemed to be standard prices and the cocktails (especially the Iced Tea range according to Chris) full of alcohol. So, extra expensive mountain water full of the rotting remains of dead sherpas aside, it wasn't too scary price wise.
PilotChris
Yes. That "Mango Island" distant-cousin-of-a-Long-Island-Iced-Tea concoction absolutely provided €10 of drinking value. We had a great turnout last night and overwhelmed the space we had reserved, but aside from an overdose of swankiness, the place really turned out to be decent. According to Bill, the food was even quite good!

We had a comically epic evening after leaving Ciba Mato. Not so good in the getting-to-work department this morning.
adrianlondon
Was there still a queue at BOA when you got there around 11pm? I passed there around midnight (on my way home) and there was no queue.
mayfly
Seems it was a great night yesterday , next time i come too despite early shift next day ohmy.gif
PilotChris
There was a very slow-moving queue when we got there the first time. We proceeded to wander around Stadtmitte and have some adventures (I'm pretty sure we met a guy straight out of the movie "The 5th Element" at the second venue we tried) for a few hours, then went back to Boa at 1am and closed it out. It turns out the after-work party ends at 3am. At the time, this was a devastating discovery -- however, I'm pretty sure this worked out for the best in terms of saving some energy for tonight!
PilotChris
Christmas is here (almost)! In honor of the first-class outdoor drinking opportunity (it's not summer anymore?), this week's Thirsty Thursday will be at the Christmas market. Anne's kindly suggested a meeting point at a stand on the Marktplatz with excellent Feuerzangenbowle and Glühwein. We'll meet a little early this week, as the Christmas markets close early and I'm told that winter can be chilly.

What: Thirsty Thursday
When: November 27, 2008, 8:00pm
Where: Stand across from Vodafone shop
Marktplatz (square with Rathaus and Breuninger)

Since the Stuttgart Christmas market is huge and it's possible we'll have to change plans at the last minute, be sure to bring my phone number along. PM me here, or check the Facebook invite.
PilotChris
A quick *bump* to say that we are on for tonight! Two things to remember:

  1. We'll be meeting a bit earlier than usual (8pm) since the Christmas Market closes early-ish and it might be cold later.
  2. Take my number with you, since we may be difficult to find! If you don't have my number, PM me, or check the Facebook invite above.

See you all tonight!
adrianlondon
See you there! Thanks for organising.
adrianlondon
I've read that the Stuttgart Christmas Market shuts at ... 9pm.

http://www.stuttgarter-weihnachtsmarkt.de/

EDIT to add : My colleagues say that the drink selling places stay open later.
MarcusEvans
Oooops. Hmm, where will the drinkage move to?!
adrianlondon
Thought you were working at a stall, Marcus. When do you finish?
MarcusEvans
3pm. Pretty easy job...selling 'Stollen.

Hmm =/

So, I have no gutharben left on my phone. Will someone please phone me when and if anything is happening tonight?! Thanks!
PilotChris
Are there any requests regarding venue for this week's Thirsty Thursday? The short-list is currently: Mash, Bett Lounge, Meyers, and -- what the heck -- Bounge. Totally open to options!

OH, and since it'll be my last week... The night might not be complete without a trip to BOA. wink.gif
PilotChris
Ok, it's decided! This week's Thirsty Thursday will be back to Mash!

Mash is a little lounge at the Bosch Areal, ever so slightly out of the Stadtmitte area. U-Bahn is very close (Berliner Platz), and S-Bahn (Stadtmitte) is about a 10 minute walk -- maybe less. We had a great night out here about 6 weeks ago, so let's see if we can do it again!

The details:
[b]When:[b] Thursday, Dec 11, 8:30pm
[b]Where[b] Mash, Forststr 7 (Bosch Areal) (see map)

Everybody's welcome - especially newcomers! If you don't have my phone number, please PM me or check the Facebook invite for it!

Fair warning: BOA's after-work party may be on tap for later in the evening, for those brave enough to join! wink.gif
