If you guys go to Palast... I'll head that way after work for a couple beers.. I live around there.
PilotChris
Alright, Palast it is! For those who haven't been before, Palast der Republik is a fantastic little mostly-outdoors bar in Stuttgart-Mitte. With an entry on wikifun.de, how could we possibly go wrong?

The details: 8:30pm (or whenever you feel like getting there) @ Palast der Republik. If you're coming by U-Bahn, the closest stops are Friedrichsbau (Börse) and Schlossplatz. Palast is a rather funny-looking circular building, plainly visible from the Schlossplatz side of the Friedrichsbau U-Bahn station. It's also roughly across the little street from Vapiano. If you don't know the venue or haven't met up with us before, feel free to PM me for my phone number (or it's on the Facebook event page).

In case of rain: Palast isn't a superb spot for rainy evenings, so we'll probably mosy on over to Mata Hari. Call if unsure!
PilotChris
Weather-a-computa-matron 9000 (a.k.a. weather.com) says 70% chance of rain tonight. So, let's move the festivities to our backup location of Mata Hari, which hopefully won't be too full of people escaping the rain. See you all at 8:30pm!

Mata Hari is at Geißstr. 3 in Stuttgart-Mitte. Consult The Google if you haven't been there before -- it can be a little tricky to find! Rathaus U-Bahn is the closest, though it's an easy walk also from Schloßplatz or Rotebühlplatz if your transportation swings that way.

I'll be drinking in celebration of finding a new apartment! Yaaay!
PilotChris
I'm unfortunately indisposed with a business trip this Thursday. Does anybody care to choose a venue? I'll relay the plans to the off-TT group as well!
MarcusEvans
Mata Hari or Palast! Can't think of anything else. I'll go with Mata Hari just because it makes me feel normal!
wolfgangstuttgart
You'll find me at Mata Hari this Thursday. At around 8:30 PM ...
adrianlondon
I'll be there after the Greek meal.
woo
me not come too wink.gif
gotta pick pal up from airport (well, i say pick up what i mean is steer him in the right direction away from mistakenly buying a monthly train pass to boeblingen instead of a single ticket to marienplatz)
but will be out and about for a thirsty thursday extension on friday smile.gif
wolfgangstuttgart
It looks now like I'll be the only one at 8:30 - so clearly: I can't promise I'll be at Mata Hari this evening. Sorry ...
Until next time ... :)
MarcusEvans
I will be there after the meal too! Damn you Wolfgang!
wolfgangstuttgart
Waiting would have meant talking ~ 2 hours to myself - and I'm not *that* old - not yet ... :)
I'll be welcoming woo's friend tomorrow evening (Vapiano): company seems to be guaranteed at least at this event ...
PilotChris
Ok, I'm back on the job this week. A very good friend of mine arrives on a visit from the US on Thursday, so I'm hoping we get a great crowd! We'll conflict with adrianlondon's dinner thingy, but hopefully the groups can combine later.

The weather forecast isn't great for this week (temperature or precipitation-wise), so let's set this week's Thirsty Thursday at the always-versatile Mata Hari. For those who plan to arrive hungry, Mata Hari serves simple (but satisfying) dinners. Maybe, if somebody gets there early enough, we can get one of the indoor tables!

The details in easy-to-parse format for the attention-impaired among us: wink.gif
What: Thirsty Thursday (after-work drinks)
When: Thursday, September 18, 2008 -- 8:30pm
Where: Mata Hari, Geißstraße 3, 70173 Stuttgart (see Google map)

Also, if you're on the Facebook bandwagon, you can see/join the event right here.

We'll have to expand our venue repertoire at some point, so if you've got a suggestion for a new place let me know!
derwiskinator
I will be there! This'll be my last one for a bit, so we should "epicify" it.

Imran
wolfgangstuttgart
I'll be there ... :) ...
mayfly
so then another goodbye drinking round , well i join too ,
Beetle
Plan to see u all there for a wee drinkie too...
mayfly
HeyBeetle , nice to have you back . Hugs
PilotChris
Our Thursday operation has just reached new heights. Thanks to mayfly and her native German-speaking prowess, we now have the large indoor table reserved at Mata Hari on Thursday. Given how the temperatures have been flirting with the freezing mark lately, I think we'll probably be happier inside, yes?
Sera
I think I'll be able to stop by for a drink now that I don't have to freeze to death.
westmont97
I hope to drop by after my dinner plans. biggrin.gif

Looking forward to seeing you all later...
stgtLainey
Yup, see you all later this evening.

(-:
benbrack98
I will be attending with a fellow toy-towner, see you there!
PilotChris
Great turnout and a great crowd last night, and it was fun to see some new faces!

We may shoot for a more mellow place with copious seating and lower ambient noise next week. I've seen a number of nice-looking cafes around the periphery of Stuttgart-Mitte, any of which could be a suitable candidate. Any recommendations? We had one or two votes for Barcode last night...
benbrack98
Ok, so we came out, and couldn't see anyone. Then again, we're newbies and don't know many of the Toytowners...It was crazy busy in there, so it was quite a challenge!
PilotChris
After some discussion of branching out to a new venue, let's set this week's Thirsty Thursday at Bounge Bar at Börsenplatz. I've never been, but it's been recommended to me and I'll try to swing by to check it out tonight. While Bounge has the worst web site in the known universe, a friend reports that at least the Mai Tais are good. Our crowd should remain happy as long as there's beer on tap.

The plan:

Bounge Bar
Börsenplatz 1
8:30pm, Thursday, September 25
http://www.bounge.de/

It's just a few minutes' walk from the Hauptbahnhof, or take the U-Bahn to Friedrichsbau Börse station. If you care to arrive early, happy hour (with €5 cocktails) is until 8:00pm. I'll be there early with some colleagues and former colleagues, so you won't be alone!
Minnetonka_gal
Hi all,

I´m not only new in town (well sort of, been here 9 months already), but definetely new in this website. And looking forward after months of only speaking german (although a few opportunities to speak english have presented themselves) to regularly meet with other natives and get to meet new people!

See you there tomorrow.

Hey All!

After last week's Wasen trip, planning for this Thursday has fallen by the wayside.

Last night was beautiful in Stuttgart -- the Wednesday night dinner group sat on the terrace at Vapiano! Tonight's weather is forecast to be cloudy, but dry and moderately warm. Let's plan on meeting tonight at our old standby, Mata Hari at 8:30pm.

Mata Hari is at Geißstraße 3 in Stuttgart-Mitte, near the Rathaus U-Bahn stop. It's a little hard to find, so if you've not yet been, check a map. You can PM me here for my handy number, or see the event invitation on Facebook.

See you tonight!
wolfgangstuttgart
Who could possibly resist an hour or three at Mata Hari .. :)
I'm in.
Leadstone
Hi, I'd like to come along too. Never met you guys before so how will I know who you are? Will you be the noisy crowd in the corner??
Crazy_horce
Look for the loud, motley crew speaking English.

PilotChris
Based on feedback from the regulars, this week's Thirsty Thursday will be at quieter, more loungy venue: California Bounge. The lighting is dim, the seating is soft, and the music is chill and -- unlike Mata Hari -- you won't have to jockey for table space! If you haven't come out to meet the Stuttgart Toytown crowd, don't delay -- act now! While not a limited-time offer, Thursday does offer nice people and good conversation.

Since Bounge has a 5 EUR cocktail happy hour ending at 8pm, we'll "start" at 7:30pm for the cost-conscious among us. Feel free to roll in whenever you'd like!

Bounge is located at Börsenplatz 1, which is at the Friedrichsbau-Börse U-Bahn station just across the B27 from Palast der Republik. It's a few minutes' walk from the Schlossplatz and Hauptbahnhof.

If you swing the Web 2.0 way, check the Facebook invite and add yourself to the guest list!
Crazy_horce
Could you please define Web 2.0? Nobody really seems to know what the hell that really means.
It's like synergy or eXtreme!, a buzz word that sounded good, but has lost all real meaning.
PilotChris
Wikipedia provides a decent summary in the first sentence of the definition section (yes, section):
QUOTE (Wikipedia)
Web 2.0, through its numerous definitions, encapsulates the idea of the proliferation of interconnectivity and interactivity of web-delivered content.

To me, Web 2.0 is all about people-powered content and interactivity, as opposed to statically interlinked information. It certainly means different things to different people, though.
adrianlondon
Aaanyway ...

As I've just got back from London and can't be arsed to arrange a dinner for Wednesday (there's already a Mexican meal tomorrow for those going), I propose that anyone who fancies a meal out meets me around 7:45 to 8pm on Thursday (i.e. before the drinks) at Gosch for some tasty seafood.

This is a small place, so just turn up, grab some food and tuck in!

Gosch
adrianlondon
Just a reminder to say there's dinner happening (see post above) for those that want it. Otherwise, drinking starts at 7:30pm.

Do they have fish and chips? tongue.gif

Do they have fish and chips? :P

Just called them: Gosh at Rotebühlplatz says "NO" ... but I was told by them that maybe Gosh at Hauptbahnhof has that perhaps, maybe ... but I couldn't find their number at HBF ...
adrianlondon
Gosch is a decent enough place. Sticking to the Stuttgart theme of fish being either mediocre or expensive, it didn't change that impression, but for Stuttgart it was good. If that contradiction makes sense.

And as for Bounge - what a cool bar! So comfy.
PilotChris
For this week's Thursday drinks, I've found a new place that deserves a try:

Mash Stuttgart (http://mash-stuttgart.de)
8:30pm, Thursday, October 23
Forststr. 7

I've no idea if this place is dead or alive on a Thursday, but it looks pretty cool. Not precisely relevant for Thursday, but if anyone's feeling adventurous (or missing the Wasen) this weekend, they've got a Schlager party on Saturday.

It's a wee bit out of the center at the Bosch Areal complex. A veritable boatload of U-Bahn lines stop a block away Berlinerplatz (U2, U4, U9, U11, U14). If you can, get off at Berlinerplatz Liederhalle. If not Berlinerplatz Höhe Str. is only a few minutes' further. Mash isn't visible from the street -- walk into the complex with the big Bosch sign and you'll find it.

If you don't have my number and want to come, PM me for it in case you can't find the place.
wolfgangstuttgart
I'm in (and I will try to be at Bounge at some time in the future, PilotChris ... :)
PilotChris
Just a quick *bump* to the top. We'll be meeting tonight at Mash. Based on the Facebook event RSVPs (and you too, Wolfgang), it seems that we'll have 10 - 15 people. See you tonight!
Minnetonka_gal
hi everyone,

haven´t joined you guys for a bit. It´s time now, looking forward to meeting new people again.
I had a great time last time!
You all are so cool!

nice regards,

MN_gal
PilotChris
Mash turned out to be a cool place -- lots of space, good service, and quiet enough to talk! We had a great turnout tonight -- good people, food, and drinks! Thanks for coming!

[ ... ] We had a great turnout tonight -- good people

Well yes, except perhaps this wolfgangstuttgart already ordering the next beer while the one in his hands still wasn't even empty - even the waiter, IIRC, for a short moment seemed to enjoy that picture ...

And Marc (NL): I hope you can forgive me my knowledge about the Netherlands is - at best - lousy ... Next time I'll try asking Google before I start talking ... ;)

Nice weekend, everyone out there ... :)
PilotChris
I'm on a business trip out of the country for the next two weeks, but am happy to organize if people are still interested. Anybody have a place in mind for this week?
mark_
Morning all,

I don't know about you, but I feel like a "thisty thursday"...
any suggestions?
Bounge
Mata Hari
Any irish pub
Troll...???
PatsFan1
I vote for O'Reilly's Irish Pub (this is Wayne, a relative newcomer to TT).
mark_
Sounds good to me! I can crawl back home within five minutes tongue.gif
wolfgangstuttgart
O'Reilly is very fine: actually I thought to have a break this evening from going out ... but who can resist an hour or two in O'Reilly's? ... :)
alegria
heeyy, I might drop by - I already have something for night, but O'Reilly's is on my way home! How long are you staying there? Ciao, Ana
