We will be driving from Provence through to near Bodensee at the end of July. To break up the drive, we want to stop for the night somewhere about halfways, which is approximately between Aix-les-Bains in France and Geneva in Switzerland. See the black loop in the picture or this link for where I mean. Can anyone recommend somewhere along here for a night? Keeping in mind that this will be July, so the fabulous chalet where you stayed for a week's skiing might not work for us, but I'm happy for any recommendations I can get.

Oh, and for anyone who might be interested, we will also be heading to Munich for a couple of days the first week of August.

I don't know any myself, but for those that might.. are you looking for somewhere child-friendly too?

Annecy is a beautiful little town. My boyfriend spent many summer holidays there when he was a child, and we had actually planned to be there at the exact same time you're planning to travel through the area but ended up deciding to go elsewhere.

Try the Hotel du Nord in Annecy. It's somewhat small, so may be fully booked already, but worth a try. And go swimming in the lake.

UrbanAngel, good point. The place doesn't have to be really child-friendly (babysitting, activities for kids, etc) but it can't have a policy of shooting one and half year olds on sight. wink.gif Thanks for the tip Georgiagirl.

This is a place we stayed en route back to Munich a few years ago - The owners are very friendly and the house is beautiful. It is a few kms outside of Annecy in a small village.

They say they still have some availability in July and August.

Annecy is beautiful, have fun!

Does this need to be a swish guest house??

I have often used the Formula1 chain of hotels, Cheap and clean!... There is always one close by!!

Just follow the signs from the autoroute!

Strange Mellelisa, I stayed in Thônes only last week. If it's only for one night it's a nice enough little town, although I stayed in the motel as I really was on the way through and just wanted to get dry.
