Today I was out for my usual lunchtime walk, minding my own business. Then suddenly there was this female Goth in front of me dressed all in black. Nothing unusual there. Black top, black boots, black leggings with a black mini skirt, died black hail, black eye liner and lipstick etc. Then she dropped somthing and as she demurely bent over to pick it up, in a similar style to the Paris Hilton/Britney Spears no knicker phase, one could clearly see she was wearing big fuck off Brigit Jones' style WHITE underwear. I mean these certainly passed the Daz test and looked totally out of place. Yes I know it is underwear and was not meant to be part of her visible outfit but to me it took away from the appearance she was trying to portray.
This struck my as exceptionally unusual considering she was ( and I assume still is) a Goth.
So should a real Goth wear only black (or blood red) underwear? Is it a sin for a goth to wear white underwear? or is just a case of wearing what's clean and available?
I mean as she went to so much effort or her outward appearance surely to be fully with it and feel in the Gothic spirit she would don black knickers.

Black and white hooped underwear would be ideal I think.

I agree, no underwear would be classy, solve the colour dilemna, and of course help the evironment by reducing laundy. A win-win-win

Lots of goths wear latex and stuff, so the appropriate underwear would seem to me to be massive diapers to soak up the sweaty phenomenom know as "disco fanny".

So should a real Goth wear only ...
Real Goth? hahahhahahahaa
There hasn't been a real Goth since pant's crouches hanging around the knees became a style (reminds me of a horribly dressed penguin). Goths today are all about fashion and the stores and price tags that cater to "them" suggests they are nothing more than spoiled brats and debs.

The way you described what she was wearing doesn't sound like she was authentic. Perhaps a goth wanna be. There's a fake goth person around every corner. This is more suitable for a gothy.

There were loads of goths at my school. They spent their Saturday evenings drinking Cider and Thunderbird in graveyards. One of them killed themselves by ODing on butane gas. Twats.

If you want that 'time travel' experience then watch the Isar from the Tierpark side of the Tierpark bridge on a sunny Saturday afternoon. It seems to be where Munich's Goth community, yes really there is one, hang out. They'd be funny if they weren't so sad.

Talking of Goths, but a bit off-topic unless it's going to be an underwear inspecting event, is anybody going to see Combichrist at Kato, Berlin, 17th July
link here. We could meet up, so long as we don't feel compelled to have to compare knickers!

It might be best for you to post that under Events/Meet Ups for Berlin, Serenissima. That way people will see your topic title straight away, and might not overlook it!

Sorry to be pedantic, but I'm just trying to understand the mechanics of this. The OP says the Goth lady was wearing black leggings with a black mini skirt. And when bending over she exposed her white knickers. Now, what I understand by "leggings" is a garment which covers the legs and the posterior. So, for this to work, she must have been wearing her Daz-test approved white panties over the leggings. Could the panties have some kind of signalling function? Bend over and flash a message?

In fact, now I think about it, there was a goth girl who used to hang out on the bus station at Ostbahnhof in Munich some years ago, wearing a short but wide skirt, hitched up at the back to a height where the word "skirt" ceased to have any meaning ... and not a stitch of underwear. She certainly flashed a message when she bent over.

Type "goth" into youporn instead of youtube, bound to get better results - although there might just be loads of vidoes of blokes in eyeliner wanking, I don't know. I should do more research before posting really.

There is actually a technical term for this when referring to a wanking depressive nihilist, it's called 'cranking' i.e. crying and wanking at the same time.

Could someone enlighten me as to the difference between "real" and "fake" when it comes to Goth culture? It all looks pretty fake to me.

The most hilarious thing about Goths, is that they think by dressing up like they're at a twenty four hour showing of the Rocky Horror Show, they're being 'individual', where as in fact they're exhibiting exactly the kind of human personality flaws that they most likely claim to despise.

Like I said, I haven't seen a real goth in like 15-20 years. The first ones I saw were late comers to the punk scene in the early '80s. I think Jim Carrol was their hero and they were all mimicking Robert Smith. The mid to late '80s brought in a eurotrash (Brand New Lover) goth style that betrayed the culture and picked up wannabe punks that also were heavy into metal. I think Christina Ricci and a few other notables brought in the "fake" goths in the mid to late 90's and made it all about fashion. I am waiting for the beatniks to come back into style.

just to clarify they were leggings that were like long sox but going high up her thigh then 'normal' white underwear.
