As part of Munich's 850th anniversary celebrations, the town center will be closed to traffic this weekend from July 18th at 21:00 to July 21st at 05:00! Apparently the organizers are turning back the clock with an, "Old Town Ring Road festival: A theatrical, musical and playful journey in time on the Old Town Ring Road".

This sounds like just the excuse undesirables look for to get their djembes out, perform fire breathing stunts and/or juggle while riding unicycles, so I will make sure to monitor the situation carefully and make sure that things don't get out of hand.

My German is unreliable, however if I have understood correctly, U-Bahn and S-Bahn will be fully operational though bus and tram lines will be affected.

There are specifics on what the deal is with automobiles which I am sure that a Good Samaritan will roughly translate for everyone.

Information from City Hall (German)

Not just macrame clad yoghurt weavers juggling tofu, there's a lot of stuff going on.
Area around Sendlinger Tor looks for clubbing and checking out the eye candy.

Everyone who lives central has been leafletted by the council.
S Bahn and U Bahn are unaffected but surface transport faces significant alteration.

Ah. I just corrected your post and then, AT LAST, realized who you actually are. Jebus. It took me a while I have to admit.

Will bikes be allowed in the city center?
If so, I guess die Polizisten are going to have a busy weekend.

Another little heads-up: any vehicles parked illegally in the city centre will be towed starting at 16:00 today.

What I don't get is that there are cars driving around all over Gärtnerplatz? Is traffic banned in town or not? huh.gif
MonksTown
Allowed at Gärtnerplatz JW, until the Revolution! wink.gif

Thanks for the info. I was a little confused as muenchen.de says that the area would be closed off.
MonksTown
That's NEXT weekend JW for Gärtnerplatzfest.
NB The street closure is longer than usual this year as the fest is over 2 days.
