I was in Garmisch on Saturday (Zugspitze), and the conditions were pretty good. Also not too far...

Anyone know how busy the Zugspitze gets on a weekday and at the weekends? I read on the iglu.com website that in fact this is one of the only places in Europe with decent fresh snow :-)

The conditions were great, but I was queueing 20 minutes for the lift... Not much fun when it only takes 3/4 mins to come down!!! Mind you, I think it was busier because of the thanksgiving weekend.
I'm not sure what its like if you're not a beginner... I was learning to ski, so it was fine, but if I was snowboarding, I think it would have been a bit boring.

Johnny English is right. There isn't much snow in the Alps right now...only 30-40cm on the top of most mountains which isn't all that great. Zugspitze has tonnes of snow...so the lines will be massive.

I was at the Zugspitze on Sunday. Apparently it was much busier on Saturday so we didn't queue for that long, but the big disappointment was that not all the lifts were open so for all the hassle of getting up to the skiing area there were only 4 drag lifts and 1 seated lift open. And it still cost €35 for the day!
They might open more lifts soon but it looked like a question of snow to me as there was lots of stone and rock to be seen near some of those closed runs. Their website lists what lifts are open:
www.zugspitze.deShould be quieter at least during the week...

I was thinking of going to Hintertux this weekend. Has anyone been there this year yet? Any recommendations for any good cheap(ish) Hotels/Gasthäuse?
